What gpa are Dental Schools really look at?
1) science gpa (only for the prerequisites)
2) science gpa (including all the sciences ever taken)
3) nonscience gpa (only for the prerequisites)
4) nonscience gpa (including all nonscience ever taken)
5) overall gpa
The reason I am asking is that I have a 4.0 gpa for the science prerequisites, but my gpa went down as I took some more advanced science classes. Also I am not sure how AADSAS calculates and sends everything out to the schools. 😕

I think schools look at your overall GPA - GPA for the pre-requisites probably doesn't matter too much, but I'm sure they will see that you did very well in the science pre-reqs and then took the initiative to take some upper level science classes.

In my interviews, they nearly always talked about overall GPA if they talked about it. Depends though. If you have a lower overall, they will look at the science ones specifically. If you have any bad grades in the important core pre-req classes be prepared to explain those. Sounds like you're fine though.

I'm not sure about other schools but I know that UT Memphis will also look at your last 30 credit hours GPA.

I guess different schools might be different but I think they value your science gpa more than your overall gpa. Some schools I have interviewed at stated that science gpa is one of the top things they look at because that is all that you will be doing in dental school. I'm sure your overall is important as well though. And in terms of required science classes vs. all science courses, they don't figure a separate science gpa for only required science classes so all science classes are important, although I'm sure they look at grades for specific classes as well.

get the highest possible scores and you'll be fine!

UNC absolutely LOVES science GPA, overall does not matter much to them from what they told me.
