I am a current D3 and would like to apply for a gpr to make me a better candidate for my endodontic residency in the future. where is it possible to know which schools are good schools to improve my endo clinical experience? 🙂

VA San Diego has a fantastic endo program with a very nice endodontist to teach you. A decent amount of their residents end up in endo. One thing to remember is that endo programs like seeing real world work experience for a few years prior to acceptance.

Thank you! What if you are not in the top of your class and have no research experience? would doing GPR then practicing a few years be better than just doing GPR then applying?

Definitely. Some endo programs list their residents. Look at their bio. For example OHSU most of their residents did GPR and/or worked for 4+ years. UCSF same way. Many schools are like this. Not saying it’s impossible to get in straight out of GPR. Just “harder”.

If you can, I'd go to a GPR with a good reputation that's closely associate with an endo program like Einstein. Learn to place implants during the GPR and plan to go GPR --> Private Practice --> endo

With the ability to place implants as an endodontist, you'll have a lot of options.

Completely anecdotal but people I know who have gotten into endo have gone to AT Still AEGD, OHSU VA GPR, Ohio State GPR and one of the NYU Langone programs.

What I would suggest doing is looking up all the endo programs that you are interested in. Find their residents page, and look up their bio. Sometimes it says in there what GPR/AEGD they want to - you can just apply there or find their email and straight ask which they would recommend.

Alternatively go on LinkedIn, and try to find the residents on there. Lastly go to facebook and simply type in the name of the residents and cold message them. or can post on big dental groups like dental nachos.

Using these methods I was able to speak to about 30 residents from all over the country and ask their advice - matched to perio.

I would also look for programs that have an endodontist on staff as well, that would increase your odds. do you have an endo residency at your school? or faculty? I'd start by picking their brain and asking their advice. get started on research ASAP. you can definitely get in straight out of GPR

Guys are there any good GPR/AEGD programs for getting into Endo in the Chicago area?

Hi all!!
Quick question: Between UCSF GPR and a VA GPR, which one's better? Asking overall. Not just from Endo perspective

Any thoughts inputs and information is much appreciated

VA GPR generally better than others due to the financial component not being an issue for patients
