I keep hearing to wait until I'm paired up with a 2nd year to figure out what books to buy, but a book list has yet to be posted and I want to get an idea about what I need/where to get it. Here's what I already have:

Netter Atlas
Robbins Path
Lange Pharm
Harrison's

What other books are vital and where is the best place to get them. I figure I'll need a Biochem book, phys (constanzo?), histo (Ross), anatomy...

You may just want to add board review books for all topics. You will need to buy a dissector. I used half.com got it cheaper with shipping then the book store. Physiology is done really well by Doctor Stepp. His notes are amazing. histo. you may want as reference but it probably would be unnecessary. A good Biochem. book can be helpful especially if you never have taken it before. Personally I used my text from undergrad as reference because I know where everything is in it (authors are Voet, Voet, and Pratt). It is used by NYU medical school. Usually Doctor Kumar is pretty good and the schools book is great as well. Don't buy anything until you meet with a second year (Oh that would be me), they will tell you what is important. Nothing is needed for your first week besides a dissector.

I never took Biochemistry in Undergrad. What is the best, most comprehensive biochem text to buy?

I personally love Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry, Fourth Edition
by David L. Nelson, Michael M. Cox
http://www.amazon.com/Lehninger-Principles-Biochemistry-Fourth-Nelson/dp/0716743396/ref=pd_sim_b_3

I think I read somewhere that nycom's syllabus had:

Biochemistry (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews) edited by Champe, Harvey and Ferrier, 4th edition, 2007
http://www.amazon.com/Lippincotts-Illustrated-Reviews-Biochemistry/dp/0781722659

That Lehninger book is not even half as good as the Voet book. I've had them both.

you may want to hold off Harrison for now.

www.amazon.com has pretty sweet prices.

Netter's flash cards are pretty useful.

I know that Harrisons is not essential right now, however I was fortunate to recieve the newest edition as a gift. Thanks for the responses. I'm going to look into that Voet Biochem book.

I actually used that book during Med-Prep and I liked it but I wasn't sure if it would be practical for actual classes.
