Anyone have any idea as to what the best programs are in neurosurgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, and cardiovascular surgery?

See the previous post on "Best Surgery Programs" for those "ranked highly" in GSurg but for...

CT:
Stanford
Michigan
Hopkins
Brigham
Penn (more for Thoracic)
UVA
Cleveland Clinic
Emory
Columbia

I know I am leaving out some anyone else feel free to add more

Additions to the CT programs:

Minnesota
Mayo
USC (like Penn, mainly thoracic)
Wash U
Some say Colorado, Baylor, and Vanderbilt but I don't know
Florida and Louisville are also solid programs

What about Duke?

I have no first or second hand knowledge of Duke's CT program

I guess I should add UT Southwestern to this list as it has gained a lot of respect in many areas including transplantation.

neurosurg - add barrow/columbia/nyu/jhu/mgh as some of the best.

go to nsmatch.com to check out more detailed info.

that's true. for general surgery, you will want to include:

Johns Hopkins
MGH
Brigham and Women's
University of Washington (Seattle)
UC San Diego
UCSF
UCLA
Duke
Yale
Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
UT Southwestern/Baylor
Emory
University of Colorado

i don't know about any of the NY programs.

No offense to any Bulldogs out there, but I think Yale makes the list because it is an Ivy and not because it has a great surgery program. I'd replace it with UVa. Wash U. in St. Louis probably also belongs on the list. The New York programs (Cornell, Columbia, NYU) are really good to great but may benefit in reputation from being in NYC. Move them to a smaller city or a city without the appeal of New York, and they may lose some of their luster. In terms of Northeast programs, UPenn is probably tops from what I have heard. In the end, none of this stuff really matters. What matters is what you make of your experience at the place where you end up.
