I'm working through the biology section, and it's painfully long.

I'm wondering what people are doing to get ready/have done and gotten a good score.

I started to make flash cards of what I felt were major details, but even at that rate it's a TON.

What's the best method? Just read through the review material a few times?

I agree with you, it's a lot. I feel the same way, but I really believe repetition is the way to go as far as learning stuff. For example, the first time you read it, just worry about comprehending the material. Then right after you have understood what was written, read it again, this time trying to absorb the information. Then move on. Now, more than likely you'll forget what you just read, so next time, go over it again, and so on. You'll be surprised how much you recall, and how much more you absorb the second go around.
