Hi I am blatantly stealing this thread from the pre-med forums.

In your experience, calling and visiting the schools, throughout the application process, which school has the nicest/helpful and least nice/helpful staff?

I thought all of the students and staff at UT Austin were very nice and helpful. They offered to answer any questions we might have, and tried to relax us before the interview. They also provided snacks and drinks

Dr. DeYoung from USN!! He is the best!:)

Oddly Ohio State and Michigan are great, while UNC was/is definetly the biggest pain in the arse as far as student affairs are concerned. Oh well, I'm going to learn stuff.

The lady that answers USC's phone (or at least when I've called) has been pretty rude.

The nicest staff I've talked to has been at University of Washington.

Both jU of Utah and were very kind and helpful

One of the ladies who answerd the phones at Creighton during my calls there kept on showering me with praise and flattery. She was super-enthusiastic about her work and was extremely helpful.:)

Wingate's staff were very down-to-earth and charming as well.

The people in the Western, Loma Linda, and Creighton's admissions office are super nice and friendly.

Hampton University and USC were quite rude. They don't seem to remember that our application fees are paying their salary =T

I never had any problems with the people I spoke with. Western was nice, USC I only called once, LLU always got back with me in a timely manner. The only school I called with relative frequency was Oregon State. The were definitely most pleasant.

The only one I did have a problem with was the admissions counselor that sent me random emails that I wasn't supposed to get. "Hey you want to get together to study" and "How's the weather in San Luis Obispo?" I called after the first one to say, umm, I don't think you meant for me to get that email. The second one I didn't even bother. (I posted a thread about it about 4 months ago.)

Midwestern CCP- faculties and students were so nice. One student even escorted me to the restroom. :D . There is a lady who always answer my call at the admission office. She is always kind. She is even kind when I called her very early in the morning.

Shenandoah's faculties and students were nice. But, the one who works at admission office is not nice. I forgot her name but she is always there when I call.

howard univ. by far....

Western, UCSF, Midwestern-CPG all get gold stars, very friendly staff.

I agree with everyone about USC though, and it IS the same lady, I think she is just irritated because she is doing all the answering phone calls herself but methinks USC has enough money to hire more staff if that is the case

I agree, is it Ms Wanda at Creighton? She's very polite, friendly and certainly make you feel positive/welcomed.

I bet there will be a lot of people to agree (I have seen multiple complaints about this school on here)

Albany. They are rude in phone calls emails etc from my experience. They act like their school is the most highly rated program in the nation and that everyone wants to go there so your individual call is a waste of their time.

Xavier COP wasn't all that great, they weren't very helpful and wanted to get rid of me.

TSU COP sounded very unprofessional, I was asking about which music class is appropriate to transfer, I heard them laughing, screaming in the background. I thought I had the wrong number for a minute but then I quickly verified it and it was TSU's number. They sounded like they wanted to kick me off the phone and that I was just "another one".

Despite bad comments/rude staff I've heard on this forum about ACP, my personal expericen with ACP was great. I think a certain staff in the Admissions office of ACP was very polite, professional, responsive and most other staff were friendly.

Creighton is also very friendly and make you feel positive too.

I guess most schools have good/bad staff, it's just your luck of the day and their mood too ;-). Maybe once you're accepted to their school, they treat u differently? Who knows!!!

I don't remember the name, but Wanda does ring a bell so I think that I'm talking about her. There was also another receptionist I talked to at Creighton too, and I don't remember her name either.

The people from U of Buffalo are rude and arrogant! I had the worst experiences with them
People from mercer, OSU, U of Houston, USN, MCP-Worcester are all very nice and helpful!

I only had one telephone encounter with a staff member at UOP (cancelled my interview after I got into my first choice school), but she was THE warmest, friendliest, and most eloquent person I've spoken to in a long time.:D

UCSF staff was very friendly, in person and over the phone.

University of Colorado staff was neutral.

I never spoke to anyone from USC over the phone, but I thought their email responses were a bit rude, and at times didn't address my questions.

Dean Perry at Michigan is awesome <3

Howard is the worst.

everyone at midwestern ccp was nice:thumbup:

Ummmm.... no, not really. Your application fee pays the administrative cost of processing your application; there is a cost involved, and it's not just in human resources. Further, if you are speaking to people with the idea that you are owed something from them because you "...pay their salary...," then I think you may have gotten as good as you gave.

Haha...yea I'll second that!! And everyone at Midwestern CCP is nice and very helpful.

Evilolive, have you gone to visit Michigan yet? Dean Perry is quite a person!! By the way which school are you leaning towards Wisc or Mich?

I don't know. When I visited Wisconsin to interview it was a very cold, overcast day which definitely cast a unique light (har har) on the school's atmosphere which probably biased me in finding it ugly. I also went on the weekend when the campus was even more dead than usual and there was no tourguide; there was simply an interview, an essay, and that was it. On the bright side I got to meet some of the students who told me what it was like. I haven't visited Michigan yet, though I will probably in the next few weeks. I don't know what I'm going to do. What have you decided? I'll probably be going to Ann Arbor unless I find my upcoming experience there to be atrocious (though I doubt it).

I loved dealing with U of Minnesota. They answered my questions promptly, everything was updated on time, and they followed their deadlines. Personnel and studentz were super nice during my interview. They made my admission process so easy.

On the other hand, I hated dealing with UNC. I emailed them, they never emailed me back. I had to call them like 10 times before someone picked up the phone. Their admissions staff had no idea what was going on. The whole invitation to interview was ridiculous: they called me 2 days before the interview, and I lived more than 13 hrs of drive away. I was really disappointed with the school's unprofessional admissions staff. It was one of the reasons why I withdrew my application from that school.

With that type of attitude, how am I supposed to tell off CHP, the utilities, or anyone else I pay bills for. Geez, you're just no fun.

So true. She has an amazing ability with names also. When I was there she knew every single student by their full name where they did their undergraduate and what year in school they were. I don't know anyone else that I have ever met that has that ability. I can barely recall my own name. I have never been to Wisconsin so I can't speak but Ann Arbor gets extremely high marks from me for the overall university and city area. There was a book I was reading at barnes and noble that ranks cities in the US. ann arbor was ranked like 6th most livable city.

*Grabs popcorn*

LOL - Hey, the people who are nicest was where I chose to go. UCSF was less than friendly, UNC was neutral, but CU sent me a singing telegram and a box of cayenne apples. If they were mean to me - I posted on SDN.

Hooey!!!11!

PS I may or may not have applied to any of the above schools. LOL

You know, I sympathize with you, I really, really do..... but I think you know that the person on the phone really isn't the one who's causing your problems, right? They're just some poor sap who got stuck with phone duty and is trying to keep their head long enough to get moved up into a job where people don't b!tch and yell at them all day......

There's a saying that I love: "A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter isn't a nice person." I hate it when people are snappy and so full of self-importance that they think they can talk down to those in service occupations, or performing any sort of service, especially under the "I pay your salary!" attitude. Dude, that person's just trying to do a job, just like the rest of us.

You know what's more fun? The times that you do get someone who is "testy," I try to kill 'em with kindness. Sometimes it turns their day around, and sometimes it just aggravates them more. Either way, it's fun for me. ;-)

UIC is the best in hospitality. With the way their whole students, faculty and staff acts, you may even be misled that the study of pharmacy is not hard at all.

I completely agree. I had a great experience on my interview day at UIC. The students went out of their way to be nice and friendly and answer questions, and Paula Fleming in the admissions office has been GREAT.

The people at Midwestern CCP have also been very very nice and responsive to me.

The people at Texas A&M were wonderful. They tried to make candidates feel relaxed and comfortable at the interview. Everybody was nice and friendly.

I must say Doctor Michael Kelly from the University of Iowa is the best! He treats each applicants with respect and answers each questions with patience. He makes sure you are comfortable during the interview.

Dr. McKenzie from the University of Florida is a very nice gentleman also. He answers e-mails questions fast! He is very knowledge on many topics and helps out applicants a lot too! The staff from Mercer is very nice also!

Well, I would have to say the Michigan lady seems very intimiding! She was asking the grades I received in certain classes when I made the phone call, and answer me whether to have patient-care experience. Also, the FAMU staff is very mean. They basically told everyone to leave her alone or something. That's the experience I've had this year.

The folk at UF and UM are very nice. But my favorite are at Penn state, by far. They are so sweet over there. Actually, everyone in Hershey is just really sweet. It's probably all the chocolate.

The staff at Minnesota are very nice and respond promptly to emails. :)

I loved the staff at UK COP and UNC. I got to meet the deans at both schools ask them questions. The students were awesome too, very down to earth. Also shout outs to Mercer, the school and the staff there were very nice.

The no go list was DEFINITELY UGA COP.

Talk about a horrible experience. I've never had a staff member be so rude/borderline racist. Before I even applied or took the PCAT I was told repeatedly that my chances weren't great and I needed to score at least a 50 in each section to get in. Mind you, I was a biochemistry and religious studies double major at one of the top institutions in the country. I just told the staff member I double majored but the response was again "alright, that's nice just try to score a 50".

The racist part was a snip about Indian Americans that is too inappropriate to even post here. And this is in front of 5 potential students who haven't even started interviewing yet! HELLO, WE'RE ABOUT TO GIVE YOU OUR MONEY, FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT! The students were great, but the staff simply killed my experience. Not good.

Wow, I'm so sorry about your experience. I don't go to UGA nor am I affiliated with them in any way, but I had a great experience interviewing with them and communicating with them a couple years ago. It's extremely disappointing and surprising to hear they acted unprofessionally. I would let Dr. Wolfgang know about the experience. There is no reason for that to happen. Did you withdraw your application?

I actually did speak with Dr. Wolfgang about the experience and I withdrew my application. I got the chance to interview with him and that part of the experience I did enjoy. It just takes one bad moment to ruin an interview and compound the situation, you know? Which is sad but that's what happened. I'm seriously hoping they get a chance to improve that aspect of the program because you're right that experience doesn't need to happen to anyone.

I hope you find a program that's supportive and makes you feel welcome. Best of luck!

Without a doubt, Georgetown is the worstest.
