I will be taking the MCAT next April and I was wondering which course will better prepare me for the MCAT, microbiology or human physiology?
This upcoming fall semester I will be taking biology 2 and then for the spring term I can take an upper level bio course. I was told by someone that human physiology is the best course to take before taking the MCAT, but yesterday someone told me that microbiology helped them more than the human physiology.
Which course do you think would be the best to take? I'm not limited to just microbiology or human physiology. I can also take histology, embryology, genetics, or ecology.

Physiology!, no doubt about it! After taking the MCAT, I decided that the two most important courses (beyond Chem, Organic, and Physics) were Cell Physiology and Human Physiology. I don't recall anything on the MCAT that was Micro-specific that you wouldn't have gotten in any other intro course.

Physiology for shizzzoooo!!!! 😎

good luck!!!!

I'd say physio, there is more physio than micro. But, I guess it depends which test you get.

There isn't ANY micro. If there is anything related to micro, you learned it in general bio. For my MCAT, half of the bio was mainly hphys and genetics, the other have was ochem

I agree with the physio and cell bio reccs. I'd take micro as a senior if you have time for it though, it's a useful class to take before med school (as are physio and cell bio).

Physiology, cell bio, and organic fo sho! 😀

PHYSIOLOGY. There is always at least 7 to 10 questions on the MCAT about hormones, biochemical processes, heart and lung function, etc. There are always some gimmies on the MCAT from physiology, that is if you have had it. It asks lots of questions about heart physiology, thyroid function, Diabetes, etc.

Physiology by a long shot!!! I can't even remember any micro questions. The MCAT seems to love physio, especially hormones (where they are produced, how they can affect various physiological systems). By far, take PHYS!!

Honestly, I would have rather of had a course in cell bio and genetics before taking the MCAT. Micro did not help, Immunology did not help, anatomy did not help, Physiology helped somewhat but only to the extent that I needed to know a little about the menstrual and ovarian cycles and the nervous system. I think if I would have had genetics and cell bio that my Bio MCAT grade would have been 1 to 2 points higher. But there are so many versions of the test.
