Hi all,

Say I enroll in a school that I have been accepted to but is not my first choice and it begins before my first choice (where I am waitlisted), what do I do? Am I allowed to drop out if accepted to my 1st choice after enrolling at the other school, if I am pulled off the waitlist?

Thanks.

George

No. Once school starts, you are **** outta luck. You got to stay where you are at once you take your first step into school during orientation. Its a ballsy move to not go and rely on the waitlist, so if I were you, I would set a date for yourself after which you will go to your sole acceptance and withdraw all others.

is it orientation or the actual first day of classes?

I think I read on SDN that someone quoted AAMC as saying "orientation activities", so it probably means anything deemed "orientation". Anyone else know for sure?

Hopefully you will be pulled in time to move. You don't really have a "dilemma," though, as you have little control over when or if you get pulled from the WL. Try not to worry--you will be a doctor either way. 🙂

Yeah, i am kind of in the same situation. I"m kind of delaying apartment hunting, hoping I'll hear from my first choice. But I did decide if I don't hear by sometimes in July, I will forego the waitlist. (At least. that's the plan now.)

From what I heard, you are not allowed to take an acceptance from another med school once you have matriculated.

"Matriculation" means that you have attended the first day of classes at the school...I am almost positive that orientation does not count as matriculation. I read in another thread about students leaving last year in the middle of their orientation because they got a call from their top choice school really late. You might want to call an admissions office and ask to be sure.
