So I'm a junior pre-med now at Cornell. I placed out of Gen. Bio with AP credit, but still took Cell Bio and Genetics for a total of 6 credits. Neither one had a lab component, so I'm wondering how vital it is that I take a lab (maybe like a 2 credit microbio lab) this coming Spring before applying to med schools this summer. Do most med schools expect a college bio lab??? And should it be for 2 credits? Thanks everyone.

I was in the same situation, and I was told that I definitely had to take the intro bio lab (even though I had taken an upper level bio lab). It's a requirement. I also ended up taking the intro lab during my junior year, just do it!

I APed out of Bio. Never took bio lab. No med schools gave me a hard time about it, although I took a bioengineering lab two semesters. In fact, I didn't even take chem lab I, II and no schools gave me a hard time. They don't care as long as you have shown proficiency in the sciences. This is with the exception of schools that forbid AP credit such as Boston U and UC schools.

Thanks for sharing. So you're saying that BU requires a year of college General Bio? Another others on the east coast that you are aware of?

You do have to take the bio lab. Also, are you sure that there are no cell bio or genetics labs? I'm sure that cornell must have the labs, but they are separate classes. I know at my school, USF, cell bio lab is more difficult and there is a small lecture/discussion for the lab which is not associated with the actual lecture class.
