Hey guys....

I am taking the April MCAT and I've heard that the Bio section only has about 8-15 Organic questions..... maybe one passage and a few discretes.

People that have taken it last August or April can you remember if that is right?? I'm totally fine with bio questions but I miss the orgo a lot so I'm wondering if I'll still be ok.

Thanks!

It would make sense since they're trying to phase orgo out altogether (some exams are offered w/o orgo). Personally I think most of the orgo questions are generally unimportant for aspiring physicians anyway, but what do I know?

Yeah... nothing.

Anyway, 8-15 seems a bit low. If I recall, orgo at least used to represent 35% of the biological sciences section, which should come out to ~30 questions. I imagine, in light of the recent changes in the MCAT, it would be around 20 (~3 passages, ~5 discrete).

Take a practice test and see for yourself. You can then see how much orgo will hurt you.

I've taken a couple Kaplan tests. 1 and 2....

They both had about 25-30 orgo, but people say it's less than that so I was just wondering... that many hurts me pretty badly... they're the only ones I miss... minus 2-3 actual bio.

Anyone else remember April or August last year?

Are you saying some of the MCAT versions are orgo free??

Hey WannaDoc,

I don't think any MCATs are "Orgo Free"; there will ALWAYS be an organic chemistry component. However, each test may vary in the specific amount of questions having to do with organic chemistry. Assume the worst case though, and expect to have at least 3 orgo passages; it's good to know at least a bit orgo, and if you do, you'll be able to snag a few easy points.

I took the mcat last august and my form had only ONE organic chem passage....I remember. I thought it was kinda weird because the practice tests had more...but yeah, I am struggling right now with the organic section too and just ordered myself the 1001 EK organic book!!

I'm praying for an Organic-filled BS in April. In the very least give me two passages (maybe three if I've been good this year).

Same here, Ugly Boy. I wouldn't be mad if they made my whole BS section (huh, B.S....how fitting a name) organic. I know it's wishful thinking, though.
