Hi,
What are your guys thoughts on which major path I should do? I could graduate in spring of 2018 and apply to MD programs in fall of 2017 (for enrollment in fall of 2018) if I pursue only a Biology BA degree or I would have to wait until fall of 2018 to both graduate and apply to MD programs (for enrollment in fall of 2019).

Thank you in advance!

FYI 1) I really hate majoring in Biology, but I'm over halfway finished. Only get some joy from Ochem II and organic chem undergrad research. Would never switch majors due to more prerequisites and my GPA would be toast
2) I have a 3.63 GPA right now, science GPA around 3.4

Make the choice that would give the best change of increasing your BCPM GPA, and applying in June (not fall, which decreases your odds) with solid, comprehensive ECs. You don't need to graduate before you apply, but you do want to complete all the prerequisites before taking the MCAT.

What are EC's? I've taken all the prerequisites besides Physics II.

What kinds of EC's would you recommend to get involved with? I'm currently doing undergraduate research in organic chemistry and will continue to until I finish my degree.

Besides the research, active clinical experience interacting with current patients, passive physician observation (Shadowing), nonmedical community service serving those in need, and if you can, peer leadership and/or teaching (coach, mentor, TA, tutor). Hobbies and artistic endeavors can also be listed on the application.

Are interested in becoming a physician scientist? What, specifically, is the project you are working on, if you don't mind me asking?

In any case, you need the clinical experience not only to list on your application, but also to have something to point to when asked why you want to be a doctor.

I'm assisting a graduate student with testing the kinetics of VMAR reactions, but I'm hoping soon I can start my own sub-project. I volunteered for a year on the Oncology unit when I was a junior and senior in high school and I started a college internship at a hospital on the Telemetry floor, but I moved so I had to stop it. There are more programs like that though that I'm going to apply to do again soon.

I might be interested in becoming a Physician Scientist.

It sounds like a plan. I would suggest an REU or any other summer research opportunity in something more biologically based, just to see if you would like research in the medical field. I might also suggest volunteering at free or charitable clinics sometime in the future.
