Good morning all:

According to most medical school websites, one year of Biology is required as a prerequisite. I have taken general biology and microbiology?would that fulfill the biology requirement?

Thanks for you help?I did conduct a search of SDN and was not able to find this information.

many schools want a year of general biology.

My roommate has run into this now that he is a senior year chem major and only took Gen Bio 1. He's accepted to a couple of schools that aren't requiring him to take general biology 2, but he is required to take another biology course with a lab(cell molecular bio).

I had a diff. situation where i had AP bio credit from highschool(for gen.bio.1 & 2). Upon realizing some schools don't take AP credits, i supplemented it with Genetics(w/lab), and Microbiology(w/Lab) to cover my a$$.

If you don't want to take bio 2, then don't, but realize that certain schools that you might want to apply to may make your senior schedule a little less enjoyable by requiring some course before you are allowed to matriculate.

On the otherhand, schools DO MAKE exceptions, but it's probably smarter, in your case, to at least take an extra bio class or two to cover the requirement.

Good luck,

Joe

i've found that the majority of schools don't care as long as you're taking higher level bio courses.

however, i've heard that ucla wants you to take both general bio series unless you were given credit by your college and you took higher level courses.

i actually emailed several of the uc's my freshman year and i never got a direct answer...it was pretty pathetic.
