I am a non-traditional premed student entering the application cycle for the 2012 matriculation cycle. I've been writing a blog just documenting my life and experience through this whole process, as I'm sure many people do. However, I've been curious about how other students' experiences, both traditional and nontraditional, compare with my own.

I was thinking this forum might be a cool way to share stories. Obviously, only post on here if your blog's content is suitable for public review, is not incriminating, etc. I'd like to see what other people are going through, so if you keep a blog and are either a premed student or have been accepted into medical school, please consider sharing your blog's address. I'm going to need some interesting stuff to read once my application is submitted and I have all that free time to spend waiting for responses.

I'll take the first leap by posting my blog's address:

Enjoy if possible. I've gotten my MCAT results back, and they were competitive. I plan on posting some strategies soon that I found useful during preparation, so feel free to check back or subscribe to my rss feed if you are interested.

Cool :) I was thinking about creating a tumblr account dedicated to chronicling my progress in this process... I am a reapplicant (last time I applied was in the summer of 2008). When I do I will post the URL here!

Awesome! I look forward to checking out you blog, @luckyducky87.

In the meantime, I just finished writing that post on tips for writing the AMCAS Personal Statement. It also includes a link to a HUGELY helpful article written by two admission school deans who want to help make the application process easier for medical school applicants by sharing about what medical schools are looking for.

Anyway, check it out:

You could just use MDApplicants to create a profile and also blog there...

I know I found MDapplicants profiles with good content very useful.

It was more convenient than reading blogs, for me.

I just don't want to keep MDapplicants after I am already in medical school. And someone who is say a college freshman would probably never use MDapplicants either. I have liked wordpress quite a bit, although I am no computer whiz.

Great! I'm following all so far... Also, for anyone who is interested, my blog is http://www.jintus.blogspot.com

It's not always ALL about medical school application, but hopefully most will be a good read. Not the most recent post, though; it's about photography equipment, so unless you're into that, it'll be boring. It's definitely not a standard post, though. Look around and you'll find videos, photos and stories. Enjoy!

I'm a reappliant from 2009-10 season - hoping for some awesome-sauce this year :D

I've been blogging for about half a year (including my whole MCAT process), but half of the blog is about metal- hehe.

My blog is multiaxialmedicine.blogspot.com

I'm just starting (going into my first year of medicine) but it's going to be about both medical school and living with a psychiatric illness, since I'm doing both at the same time.

My friend and I have a blog together... in my signature

MDApps' blogging is extremely rudimentary, and the platform itself is a pain to use (there's no editing posts, for example).

I've been working on a blog that I'll probably "release to the public" soon.

Lol, RogueUnicorn - I just read the entry on your blog about interview clothing and you've got some mad paint skills. Can't believe some people really dressed that way

Don't know if anyone has posted it but this has always been one of my favorites:

http://ahyesmedschool.blogspot.com/

The writer is now a resident and still posts occasionally, but at an extremely reduced rate. Usually funny/irreverent, but every once in a while beautifully poignant.

I think I may start one soon because his has inspired me so much, though I'll probably keep it separate from my sdn handle/real life/anything so that I have a bit more freedom with it.

I happened upon this blog today: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/

It's a blog that (I believe) is written by a physician exclusively about healthcare reform. Rather than being incredibly partisan (though, based on what I've read so far, he is definitely left-leaning), he relies primarily on data to substantiate most of his points. It's an interesting read.

Awesome blogs! Thanks for posting.
My blog is, like several others on here, a mix of topics, not 100% med school focused. It has a great guest post on application tips from a UPenn med student. I also talk about my positive MCAT experience.

I kind of want to start blogging one day, just because I enjoy writing, getting my thoughts out there, and e-communication, but I'm just nervous I won't have anything interesting to say. Especially now as a pre-med. Any tips for an aspiring blogger? :)

Just write! It may help not to confine yourself to a given topic.:)

Hello everyone. I just started a blog as well to chronicle my journey through the pre med and eventually medical school. Hopefully, I will be able to look back at all of this with a fondness I cannot quite enjoy now.

I'm also just getting started, but I hope applicants will find it helpful. I'm also happy to post on a specific topic if you message me.

Thanks to Emily for the nod of coolest blog name ;)

I've been writing for about a year now, and as intern, its tough to keep up, but I love to write when I have the time. I only wish I had started earlier. If you are thinking about it, just try it. Even if its just as a journal. There are going to be some pretty amazing experiences over the next few years, and I've always found that its nice to take a moment to step back and think on it, and writing is one way to do it. You don't have to share it with anyone, you can do it just for you, but you doctor self 40 years from now will probably be glad you did.

Emily's blog is good as well, as is Asystole is the Most Stable Rhythm, both linked above.

In the interest of providing even more great resources to those slogging through the application process (or those planning to) I wanted to share this blog with the community: http://appmd.blogspot.com/

Yes, the author is on SDN, but I've personally found it very helpful and wanted to give it some love.

Enjoy!
