Any advice on books that talk about the not-number stuff associated with different med schools? I'm trying to figure out which schools to apply to, and have not succeeded in finding many sources.

MSAR has some words, you can read that.

I think that Barron's briefly discusses the personality of schools. Your best bet is to use the interview feedback forms on this website. You'll find pre-meds' views of different schools based upon their tours. Also, if you drop by the school-specific threads on the allopathic board, you can find contributions from many current medical students about the pluses and minuses of each university.

The Princeton Review has The Complete Book of Medical Schools, which is pretty good.
