My hospital offers its residents $1000 for book money. They allow only iPAQs for palm pilots. so after i get an iPAQ, i still have a lot of money left over. what good internal medicine books would you guys recommend for someone going into PM&R? i am a transitional year but would still like to keep one or two really good books with me during residency.

and what's the deal with iPAQs anyway? what is the advantage of iPAQs over other palm pilots?

any help would be appreciated!
thanks.

IPAQ's are Microsoft PocketPC based hand helds that have a little more compatibility Microsoft based standard computer platforms. The resolution, color, & speed are also better than the palm at this time.

The Palm has the advantage in that there are many more programs available for it, including a number of free programs & documents.

An equalizer to Palm's advantage are programs like "Peacemaker" and other crossover programs that allow you to read Palm documents on your Pocket PC or even run Palm programs on it.

I would highly recommend the latest version of Clinical Medicine Consult (NOT 5 Minute Clinical Consult from Skyscrape). Clinical Medicine Consult is a well referenced, updated compendium of primarily internal medicine and medicine subspecialities with several aspects of surgery and OB-GYN as well. I found it to be a wonderful quick reference that did not inundate you with worthless minutiae when you are trying to quickly look up an issue. It costs around $40 dollars and requires the iSilo reader program for the Pocket PC platform but is well worth the cost. I believe you can find a link to it at PocketPC.com but the faster way is to do a Google search.

Hope that helped.
