Does anyone know of any good medical books for pleasure reading? I have been reading things such as "Intern Blues" and "What Patients Taught Me" and I love them

"Second Opinions" by Dr. Jerome Groopman. Awesome read-about 5 case studies and how he deals with difficult decisions...he is a great inspiration for any aspiring physician, and is a perfect example of what a physician should try to be! 🙂

ooh i get to be the one to say: Complications by Atul Gawande!!!

I'll second Complications

i had this whole social conscience phase where i read paul farmer, laurie garrett, & some book on how humanitarian efforts do more bad than good sometimes
- they helped w/ my ethics question 🙂 & explaining what exactly my motivations were to go into medicine besides the obvious so my parents can brag

You should also definitely try out "House of God" by Shem. GREAT BOOK!

An older one and very easy reading... Gifted Hands (by Ben Carson, MD)

Another...First Do No Harm (forgot the author)

And one more...On Becoming a Doctor (don't remember the author either)

If you really want to know the authors of these, IM me and I'll go into my office and look on the shelf. I am too lazy to get up right now. 😀

Happy Reading!

Hey thanks so much for your input and past links...can't wait to start reading some of them!
