Hi, I have absolutely no extra-curriculars, no lab, no involvement, etc.

So, I'm working on things to volunteer in and things to get involved in that I would enjoy.

I enjoy boxing and am considering getting more involved in that (I went to a gym for two months but gave it up because it was so expensive).

Question is, could I mention boxing as an ec if I get involved in it (whether it invovled matches or not), or will it be a turn-off for adcoms/interviewers?

Thanks

Nothing wrong with it -- actually such competitive sports tend not to be as prevalent with premeds so it might make you more unique. But only bring it up as an EC if you do more than just a handful of lessons. If it becomes a regular part of your life than go with it.

No Prob.......I put down boxing as one of my EC's, Ive been doing it for like 6 years now. I dont think it hurt me at all. Actually most of the interviewers want to talk to you about it b/c its pretty unusual I guess.

I'm a kickboxer and put it down as an ec. It come up in every interview with very positive feedback.

From what I've seen in the past, many interviewers and committees like to see that people have had several activities that they've become really involved in and show a real passion for. If you think boxing is one of those things (and most of all, you'll enjoy it), by all means go for it.
