Has anyone taken BR CBT 1 recently? Just wanted to know how everyone did on it? I read mixed reviews about the difficulty of the BR exams which are confusing me in terms of whether my scores on BR CBT would be higher or lower than the real deal😕.

I have used BR throughout my preparation (with some EK and TPRH).

I got a 34-37 on TBR1 (before content review) and a 33 on the real thing. The PS is representative while the BS and VR were too easy IMHO. Its the intro test so take your score with a grain of salt (like AAMC3)

My scores are all over the place for Br 1-4 I have had

#1 6,11,10
#2 10, 11, 10
#3 12, 10, 6
#4 9,9,7
aamc #3 (yesterday) 8,10,11

I am weak in ps, but I feel that the ps on the BR is much easier for me, I have been studying with BR though. I was really disappointed in aamc #3 ( I accidently marked three ps questions wrong) I guess nerves just got the best of me. I have heard this is the easiest out of the exams so I don't know if it is very representive of the actual exam. I have bought all 7 BR exams, but the aamc was so different I am wondering if I should do those instead. I am using BR because I took the exam last year and I used most of the last aamc's. I am writing on the 13th so not much time left. I think the BR bio is insane and the ochem on it is way over the top. I hope some more people weigh in here too, because I would like to know how I am doing compared to the real thing. I did much better on the conceptual problems, br really helped with those and I got almost all of those type questions correct. When it comes to calculations I get so nervous I can't even add 2+2.

I took BR 1 and AAMC 4 this week. Got a 36 on BR 1 and a 35 on AAMC 4...

Thanks for replying.....

I got 31-32 on BR 1 😀
was pretty happy about it until I read mixed views about BR exam difficulty and didn;t know what to think of my scores

Thanks a lot for sharing
I will be sharing my scores as I take more exams

a 34-37 before content review???
that's pretty amazing.

Congrats on 33! Hope things go well for you

Ok so here are my scores:

GS 1: 8 PS 6 VR 9 BS (23)😱
that was my first exam this year, pretty much a confidece killer

GS 2: 7 PS VR 10 7 BS (24)
(VR is from TPRH)

BR 1: 10 PS 10 VR 11-12 BS (31-32)
(go Berkeley!!!!!!!!, thanks for showing me love, I love you too!!!!)

Let's see how the rest of the exams go. I would be sharing my scores as I go through the FLs.

I used BR throughout as well and just like you PS (Physics basically) is my weakest area. I am trying to improve by doing practice from NOVA Physics and TPRH science workbook whenever I find some free time on hand (which is sort of rare). I followed SN2ed's 3 month schedule strictly for the first two months and have changed it a bit for the last month.

I don't think the real thing will be heavy on calculations (that's what the general poll is on SDN) so I guess you'll be fine.

All the best for your exam👍

I keep hearing that TBR 1 is the easiest of TBR FL's...so I'm wondering, for those of you who have taken several TBR FL's, was your score on TBR 1 higher than your other TBR FL's or about the same?

I thought BR were harder than my exam this summer. But pretty similar as far as the conceptual questions go.

Br1 10,13, 9
Br2 8, 10, 11 (tho i guess I accidentally didn't mark 2 answers that I thought I did on PS which would have been right)

GS 2 10, 10, 11
GS 3 9, 12, 10,

Congrats on 33! Hope things go well for you

Thanks!

I think I got a 31 (13-15,9,9) then a 30 (11-12,10,9) on tests 2 and 3 respectively. So test 1 really is an intro test. After that, my numbers started going up again.

I just started taking the Fl's last week; here are my scores and feedback

TBR 1- 11, 11, 10 (32)

TBR 2- 10, 8, 11 (29)

TBR 3- 11, 8, 6 (25)

TBR 1 was easy, especially the verbal, but I feel like there was way too much ochem.

TBR 2 was more difficult.

and TBR 3. wth was up with that bio section!? a huge drop- what a blow to self-confidence.
I felt like the ochem was a little overdone. and does anyone else feel like this about the orgo on their tests in general????????????

My test is this friday, so i am planning on taking two more FL's. Would anyone recommend any specfic ones or order (I have all 7)??

If anyone else has taken any of these tests, and wants to share your experience with them, or ESPECIALLY how you felt their preparation was for the real test, and test scores correlation with the real one- would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank You mucho!

Hmm, I haven't taken another exam yet but will be taking one tomorrow (still trying to figure out which one should I take....BR #2, GS #3, or free kaplan exam online)

Still that's a pretty good trend. DId you study from BR books? What other exams did you do besides BR and amcas (if you don't mind sharing)

Good luck for your exam👍

I am retaking MCAT 09/03/10 .... This time I used BR (and some of EK, using SN2ed's excellent 3 month guide) and I feel much more prepared (I used kaplan last year). I did feel low whenever I didn't do good on phase exams, but besides that my confidence level is high and am looking forward to writing my exam instead of dreading it.
In short, I feel much more prepared using BR😀.

I used TBR for Chem and I used the second bio Book + EK for BIO. I didnt really study Physics or Ochem. If you only have to pick a few tests, I would do AAMC 8 for a hard test overall, 9 if you want hard VR, and 10 is pretty good. For the TBR tests, I would do 5,7,8,9 are the beasts with 5,7,8 having harder VR (TBR 4 VR is just ridiculous).

I posted my first scores above and I got the same as you on bs of br 3. I did terrible on the ochem on the bs of test one. I have just taken 5 and it killed me 6-10-7. There was things on there that I had just no idea. My test is friday too. my scores are all over the place and my confidence is about gone. I think the BR has really helped me with the concepts, but I am unsure how I will do over all. I am retaking from last year and I am so burnt out. I dread friday in a way, but I am so excited to get this over with. I wish you the best of luck friday!!!

Hey What material did you use for prep?

I used examcrackers and goldstandard with some kaplan the first time around and took all the AAMC tests, examcrackers exams as well as a few kaplan fl and several random GS exams. This time in preperation of my test I am using BR and TPR hyperlearning for content review and examcrackers physics and bio to supplement. I'm doing the EK 101 verbal passages i haven't finished, and TPR hyperlearning verbal and science workbook questions for extra practice. BR is easily the best way to go, their bio section is much more indepth than you need, but it really does help. TPR hyper has great practice passages also if you suck at the experimentation type passages that require you to get answers from the passage.

I'm sure since your a retaker you already know this, but the first time I took the test, I took a kaplan right b4. I got well below my average and it absolutely killed my confidence. During the test I was so nervous that i couldn't remember anything. Try to be confident, I think this is one of the most important things. You will do great don't let the last 2 BR's get to you.

Thanks! I know my nerves get the best of me. On the first exam my computer would not work some times when I would click to go on, and it would cause the screen to advance more than I wanted when it eventually would go. I think I actually skipped a passage. I was running low on time and was so nervous I forgot to review the section. Just spent my last minutes on the last few discretes. haha. Later when my brain kicked on, at the end of both my verbal and bio when I reviewed I had skipped a passage in each section. I still get nervous now when I sit down to ps. Even at home as soon as I start to log on my heart starts pounding. I settle down as soon as ps is over. Maybe I should add a shot to my coffee on friday🙂

Thanks for sharing the info🙂

I only purchased BR 1-5 (wasted money on GS 1-10)
Only left with amcas 7, 8, 10 (want to use them in last two weeks before the exam)

That's great if you didn't have to study much of Physics (my nemesis). I believe I'm pretty decent at Organic (for some reason I totally get it, even though am not a chem major, go figure). Since I'm a bio major I think I am OKAY at bio and Gen Chem.

I think I'm going to do BR 2 tomorrow. Just placed a bid on ebay for kaplan exams....if that goes well then I would have enough practice exams on my hands. Let's see how that goes.

Hey, totally agree about BR. I'm also using TPRH series, its pretty amazing. For me BR and TPRH are just the best!
Yea I'm gonna practice science passages from their workbook... I'm using their verbal ... like you said its really good practice.

Thanks for the tips and good luck!

Hm, why does you guys say that TBR is "too easy" (verbal aside, obv is garbage) if people tend to better on the real deal than those tests? isn't that a trend in the 30+ thread, and I thought that seemed to be a bit of an accepted idea..

also, are you guys actually doing those CBT verbals? I trashed those and am doing EK tests instead. I do read the passages though since they are relatively long/boring (eh, good practice since actual seems to have plenty of those)

So far TBR1 was my lowest, mostly, i think, due to most mistakes being preventable and me slowly cutting down on those as i get better at test taking. Here are my BS/PS so far. I did aamc 3 first then started doing TBRs.

AAMC 3: PS8/VR9/BS10
(PS/BS)
1: 9/9
2: 12/9
3: 13/10
4: 12/11

Obviously I don't know anything but I feel like as long as through the process of doing these you are honing your skills and developing good 'logic' more so than just knowing things, i think these tests are pretty good.

I'm going to do the AAMCs after i finish through TBR7. (First timer @ 9/3)

does anyone feel like there is too much organic on TBR's CBT's?? With it being cut down in the past few years, I don't feel like TBR reflects this as well, at least with the FL's i've taken so far.

What are other peoples' views on this?!

Ok took GS3 today

PS 10
VR WTF (should have sticked to TPRH verbal for the exam)
BS 10

Does anyone know the correct answer to TBR CBT #5 PS Question #6?

The exhaust steam in a one-cylinder steam engine is condensed:

a. to recover the heat energy originally used to vaporize water into steam for evaporating more water in the boiler.
b. so that the fluid is more dense and better able to flow through the pump.
c. so that the piston does not overheat and expand.
d. in order to reduce the pressure in the condenser, to allow vapor to escape from the piston when the exhaust valve is opened

I chose D, but apparently it is wrong. The explanation function is messed up. When I tried to redo the Q and let the system grade it again, somehow A, B, and C are wrong, too. LOL

I got that one wrong too. I picked A, but it won't let me see the answer either, so I just assumed it was D. I took that exam a few days ago and I just took #6. when I got done correcting 6 it had one of mine marked wrong, but when I went to look at the correct answer it said the one I choose was correct. That made me happy b/c it raised my ps score a pt.

Was your score much lower for 5? I was my worst out of all of the BR 1-6 (still need to do 7) and aamc 3.

Just finished taking two tbr cbts...

tbr 1 - ps 10, vr 12, bs 12
tbr 2 - ps 12, vr 8, bs 11 (lost focus during verbal lol...)

don't really know what these score mean. any insight would be appreciated. how does the difficulty of these exams stack up to the rest of the cbt exams. I have 3,4,5 left.

Took just the physical on BR 4,5. didn't do to good, idk if it just that bad or meybe i didnt have the 'taking the full fl mindset'

on the 1st 3 (which i took the entire FL), I got

1- 11 (32 total)
2- 10 (29)
3- 11 (25)

4- 8
5- 7

lol. idk. my test is tomorrow, so lets see how it goes! as I am really curious to see how the real test compares to these BR FLs (difficulty wise and score prediction wise!!

Me too (9), even though a bunch were sloppy mistakes.

Just got done with GS CBT 4
8 PS 7VR 8BS
:beat:

I thought BR were harder than my exam this summer. But pretty similar as far as the conceptual questions go.

Br1 10,13, 9
Br2 8, 10, 11 (tho i guess I accidentally didn't mark 2 answers that I thought I did on PS which would have been right)

GS 2 10, 10, 11
GS 3 9, 12, 10,

Scores are important to some extent, but making sure you can effectively attack and solve conceptual questions is the real purpose to practice exams. If you felt prepared for the conceptual questions, then I'll bet you did really well on your actual test. Hope you got a 35 or higher!

how do you get access to TBR 8? TBR 9?? the homestudy online says there only 7 tests

Any tests beyond CBT #7 are for the people who take the live class.

LOL

Here is what it says in the answer key:

  • 6. D is correct. The heat released when steam is condensed in the condenser is dissipated through the walls of the system to the external environment and thus is wasted energy. This makes choice A an invalid statement. Both a gas and a liquid are fluids, so both are capable of flowing through the pump. The density of a liquid does not necessarily impact the ease with which it flows. The ease with which it flows depends on its viscosity, which may or may not parallel density. This eliminates choice B. The piston in the cylinder is hot from the steam, so condensing gas in a nearby chamber does not affect the temperature of the piston. The boiling point of water and the condensation temperature of steam are both 100?C, so the chambers adjacent to the piston are at 100?C. The piston is likely going to be at 100?C, so condensing the steam in the condenser does not result in a decrease in the temperature of the piston. Choice C is an invalid statement. When the vapor is condensed into a gas, the pressure in the condenser is reduced. This results in the pressure in the condenser being lower than the pressure in the piston. Because of the pressure differential between the piston chamber and the condenser, steam flows from the piston through the exhaust port and into the condenser (from a region of higher pressure to a region of lower pressure). Flow is made easier, when the exhaust gas is condensed into a liquid once inside of the condenser. The correct choice is D.

For BR CBT #5, I got 12 on the PS. If that question's answer was "D", then it would've pushed my score to a 13. For BS, I got an 11 (usually avg 12 on BR). How are tests 6 and 7? I only have 1-5.

GREAT score! It looks like you're on an upward trend and you did great on what most people consider the hardest BR test.

Just got done with GS CBT 4

Hiya Rebel,

From what I've read, you've been doing pretty well on your exams and look like a 30+. Be careful not to let an anomoly like this get into your head. I see people doing well on three to four exams bomb one exam and then panic that things are falling apart. It's a fluke. I'm sure if you review the exam you'll find you should have done better.

Actually I did pretty crappy on my exam 🙁 and am retaking in Sep. Nerves got the best of me. But I second what Berkleyreview teach said. I did bad on an exam or 2, after doing well on many, and all of a sudden I was sure that I would get a 28. Then I took a kaplan exam right b4 my test. bombed it. It freaked me out, and because of my mindset going it, I choked on the exam (If you throw right b4 your exam, perhaps voiding may be the way to go). If your doing generally well then you should do fine on your exam. Your scores look good. GS 4 was hard I thought, and my score dropped on that also. The whole test is good practice, but really unrealistic in my opinion, don't let it bother you.

@ BerkReview Teach

Thanks a lot for your encouraging remarks. I have been so frustrated all the day today because of my performance on the exam 🙁
I hope you're right about 30 + 🙂 ....I am aiming for 35+ and hopefully will be able to improve by the time I take my exam (09/03/10)

You kind words are appreciated

Extremely sorry to hear that you didn't do well on your exam. I hope you do well on your retake. Nerves do get the best of me as well, but I'm trying to control that issue. Thanks for asserting what Berkreview teach said.....it sure means a lot.

Thanks to you and Berkreview teach, I feel less guilty about my scores on today's exam. However, I won't get all relaxed about it and will be reviewing the exam tomorrow thoroughly. Gotta work hard 😀.....and hope that it pays off in the end.

My best wishes are with you. I hope you rock your exam 👍

Just took the real deal today.

I decided against taking BR #7 b/c I heard it was tough and didn't want anything to blow my confidence going in. I took BR #6 and did much better on it than I did on 5. Then I did aamc 10 and got 10-12-11, but I think I may have taken this exam last year. I took all but one of the last three exams last year, but I couldn't remember which, so I chose 10, b/c I heard it was the most similar. Hope it didn't inflate my score.

BR really helped today. There was a ton of conceptual questions and even the ones that I could not do, was not because they were super hard or that I had never seen anything like them before, it was simply that I couldn't remember how. Nothing threw me. I just made the best guess and moved on. I think what helped is that I have done so many BR passages. I am not sure I did fantastic, but I can say it was me and not the quality of the prep materials. I used Kaplan and EK some, but BR is by far the closest to the real thing except for verbal.

I ordered the 5 BR CBT's and just finished doing the last one yesterday. I definitely thought the PS on the fifth one was brutal (by far my lowest score, though I made a lot of dumb mistakes). My scores on the BR CBT's have been:

1: PS 8, VR 12, BS 7 (weakest subject)= 27
2: PS 11, VR 9, BS 9 = 28
3: PS 11/12, VR 9, BS 9 = 29/30
4: PS 9, VR 10, BS 7 = 26
5: PS 7 (bombed 2 passages), VR 9, BS 9 = 25

Kind of disappointed with my last two scores, but am using these as "learning opportunities". I have only taken one AAMC CBT, the free one (#3), which I took 4 days after taking BR #2 (and before #3), and I got PS 11, VR 10, BS 9 = 30 on it...I have about two weeks left and am going to try to cram in AAMC 4-10, and hopefully my grades will trend upward...it's gettin' serious up in herre!

Just took the real deal today.

Thank you so much for your post. No matter how much we try to hide it, there is a personal nature affixed to the things we do. BR is a small company, and all of the teachers know at least one of the owners pretty well. So when I read something like this, it makes me happy because I have had a small hand in editting or writing some of what is there. No matter how small my piece may be, there is still pride in it. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you the absolute greatest success in your application process and in medical school.
