Yeap; no hypnosis required. And yet, teams that use hypnosis in surgery-settings report less post-intervention pain with a significant reduction of painkillers needed, reduced post-intervention nausea and vomiting, and even better and faster cicatrization, other than less intervention-related anxiety or an enhanced self-perceived feeling of well-being.

You can take, for example, the experience (of anaesthetists) at Saint-Luc Hospital, in Belgium [also, Jonathan Barbier, 2009 (French original/Spanish translation) / Caroline Bleus's interview (French original/Spanish translation)]

We do awake cranis all the time. Local, local, local, no hypnosis required.

I realize this thread and your post are old but since it's been bumped, what do you mean "we?" if it's all local and the pt's awake then why are you there? unless by "we" you meant the neurosurgeons at your hospital. `

The same reason we are there during any MAC case. To monitor the patient and have a backup plan when stuff hits the fan. Even during awake cranis you have them on some decent doses of some meds for sedation/analgesia during parts of the case.

There is one thing even better than hypnosis: a homeopathic dose of it.
:)
That's very funny!
But don't miss the point; while the very concept of hypnosedation as an alternative to anesthesia is but an exaggeration -no matter its plausibility-, hypnotic techniques are being used effectively, also in medical and surgical contexts. And well, jokes -specially good ones like yours or bashwell's- are always welcome, but seriously, there is no honest relation between homeopathy and hypnosis -in spite of the cluck-like-a-chicken image that triumphs in popular culture!
