Break after 2nd year

I was hoping to hear what other students had to say about taking time off after 2nd year, particularly the MD/PhD students. I just wrapped up 2nd year and now am taking a 3 year leave of absence to get a law degree. Already I can see all my medical knowledge slipping away while I study Property and Contracts. I was wondering what any of you who are getting PhD's or MBA's or anyone taking time off has done to keep somewhat current in medicine. Do you get in clinics, have a mentor or anything like that? For those that are back in their clinical years after taking time off, how was coming back, anything I can do to make this transition easier?
