Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any insight into the EM-CCM fellowship program at BWH? Interviewing there and hoping to get some insight into the program, pros, cons, etc before the interview. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

They currently make you work in the ED during the first year of fellowship, which is... not ideal.

What’s the issue with that? For EM people it seems nice to potentially have some role functioning as an attending In your base speciality in addition to a bunch of time as a fellow in the unit.

You aren't an attending in the ED. You aren't credentialed as such, and so you'll be in a senior resident role doing what you are trying to get away from. It's a way to get free labor out of you.

You don’t go to a critical care fellowship to spend time in the ED. There is too much to learn in just two short years. Plus, they are not paid as attendings and some of these shifts are during ICU months, aka in your potential free time, which is very limited as is.

Ah that makes sense and sounds crappy.

I assumed it was like the Arizona program where you’re an IM-CCM fellow but can moonlight in the ED as an attending (at their pay grade).
