Not sure about any of the others, but the majority of MSSM students live in Aron Hall, a VERY nice dorm that is subsidized by MSSM.

Most michigan folk live in the "white coat ghetto." Mostly in Island drive apartments and medical center court apartments (med center is better). A few live in neilson condos, but they are hard to come by for rent. About 10 people in each class live in each of teh fraternities...

Cornell- students live in dorms on campus for cheap. Apartments later. I'm pretty sure there aren't exceptions to this unless you already live in NYC maybe.

bugs crawling everywhere, paper thin walls

Actually, I know quite a few students at UB Med who grew up in Buffalo and still live at home (but, obvioulsy, this is not an option for you). As far as dorms go, there is an appartment building on south campus (where the med school is), and some very nice housing (South Lake Village, I believe) for upperclassmen and grad students on North Campus (the main or undergrad campus in Amherst). There are shuttles between the two campuses. A lot of people get appartments, though. I know undergrads who live in doubles near south campus, and a law student who lives in an appartment in Amherst. Translation: people are everywhere. If you don't mind driving a few minutes, there are always places for rent around the Elmwood strip (which is kind of arsty) or around Delware Park, whch is quite pretty. Here are the link to the classified sections of the local weekly alternative paper (Artvoice) and The Buffalo News:

Hope this helps...

I, myself, do not know what kind of living arrangement I want when I start in 2 years, but my parents are already bugging me about it!

For Buffalo, I recommend finding a place around the Elmwood, Allentown or Delaware area. That is where the center of the city is and where all the night life is. Those places are also close to the hospitals. Plus it's cheaper living in the city as opposed to living in Amherst.

I am waitlisted at UB and hope to get in soon. I'm already looking for places and have already decided that I want to live somewhere close to Elmwood.

Here is good link on Buffalo apartments, http://www.apartmentspotlight.com/buffalo/q_buff.htm

I'm also a UB undergrad so PM me if you have any questions pertaining to UB.
