Hello I have a question regarding business card for current pharm student.
our school tried to sell them to us saying that we can use them during midyear/residency showcase/interview, I also saw one residency program mentioned on their website to have CV+business card ready during midyear.

I would like to ask if anyone handout their business card for residency interview/showcase?
if so, what information do you include on card besides the school you go to? do you list your internship site?
Thank you very much

I just got accepted to pharmacy school, so I don't really know anything about handing out business cards for residency interview, but I do know that ur business card should have ur name, a contact phone number and an email address. I don't think u should list ur intership site.

I don't think they're very helpful for the showcase for a PGY1 residency. I was handed several but all I did with them was verify that the person signed in (and added their contact info if not).

I hate the business card idea because you only give business cards to people who want to contact you, which would imply that you're a hot commodity; unfortunately it's the other way around, and the residency is the commodity. But it could potentially become the new normal.

At showcase this year, I only had 1 program ask me for a card, but only because some other gunner gave a card + CV, obligating everyone else to do so. I personally don't think it's worth it, you're gonna spend enough on fancy CV paper that the programs are just going to throw out anyways.

I had 5 program directors ask for business cards. It may depend on the quality of the conversation you have with them at Midyear. If you just ask some generic questions, then it is less than likely they will ask for a card.

Just my opinion, do what you want but I say better to have them and not need them then to not have them.

They were cheap through my school and I am glad I purchased them.

It's better to spend the money, have it and not use it, than to not have any at all if you are asked.

Really? We used to laugh at the students who handed us business cards.

We laughed a little too. My residency didn't even give us cards. Lots of schools are pushing cards now, but I really don't think it hurts to not have them.

No there is nothing wrong with having them, but it is just funny when you get a card and the position is "PharmD Candidate." I don't even get cards for my specialist job and quite frankly, I am not sure who I would give them to anyway unless I was a program director.

I personally think the business card thing is pointless. I doubt any program director will just initiate contacting a candidate just because they got handed a business card. If one asked me for a business card, I'll rather furnish them my CV, which has the same info on it and more. If it is an informal meeting place, I'll rather take theirs.

Well damn...lol

Good to know for the future. I admit it is funny but I like the cards, they have all my contact info on them. I passed a few out at Midyear and the stack has sat in my desk ever since, I have a feeling I will not need them again but I still like having them just incase.

They're useful for dropping off into fishbowls in hopes for a free meal at (restaurant of your choice).

+1

PLEASE do not make business cards if you're a student. We actually threw most of them away although we did keep a select few from terrible candidates we didn't want to forget were terrible.

HA!

If they invited you for an interview, they already have your contact information.
