hi
I would like to get your opinion as to what you thgink can improve my chances for medical school admission in an allopathic school.

I am taking many business classes after i changed my major to Finance. Will med schools look at this in a negative way? Do med schools usually feel that business classes are easier than traditional science classes?

I know a lot depends on my MCAT score, but I would still like to know how you think I can make my overall application next year stronger? Next semester I plan on taking Intro to Biochemistry and Systems Physiology. I know traditional biology majors will end up taking classes with more sciences. Do you feel that by taking almost 18 credits of business classes med schools might feel that i am not challenging myself enough?

I have heard mixed reviews from premed students about how medical schools take business majors. I dont want to set a negative impression on my application by majoring in Finance. Its just something that intertest's me.
I heard medical schools hate Finance majors????????????????

Stats are ok:
MCAT:32
GPA 3.9 cum and science is 3.95
Take Care,

Bye,

Ragda

Why are you even worried with those stats?

Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. There is no need to major in biology. Be prepared to explain how finance relates to being a doctor (which shouldn't be too hard to explain ... talk about how opening a practice requires financial knowledge, for example).

I wouldn't be too concerned. Don't major in something just b/c you think it will get you into med school. It's good to major in something that really interests you. You have your whole life to learn and practice medicine. Personally, I'm applying with a business-type major as well. I was really worried for awhile since the majority of those accepted major in the sciences or liberal arts, and I was neither. Forget it! Do what you want!!! Best of luck to you :luck:

You can also emphasize how your business background can help you understand what's going on in health policy and the ever-evolving insurance industry.

You will run into docs who belittle business people (mainly because those docs are uncomfortable with how much business is in medicine and want to make themselves feel superior), but you will also find docs who are impressed and interested in your very useful knowledge. Admissions committees LOVE students with stats like yours who have a non-biology background relevant to medicine, so I think if you have the rest of your act together, you will be fine. :luck:

If you major in finance (and enjoy it), you might as well put it to use. Go into ibanking for a couple of years, bank that salary. After a couple of years when you get sick of the monotony realized that there is more to live than the pursuit of lucre, and after you have worked and partied hard, go apply to med school.

Itll give you life experience, a chance to party and live richly while you are young, as well as show you what else is there outside of medicine.

Hi everyone 😎 ,
thanks for your suggestions and ideas. i guess i will stick with finance now!

Thanks,
rav 😀
