The iPad is perfect for students. I can read all my textbooks, including the 3000 page Harrison's, stream lecture videos from my desktop PC using the Air Video app, do board practice questions, and surf the web.
All with a crazy long battery life, a book form factor, no heat output, and relatively low price. The iPad has effectively replaced my Laptop.
As an owner of a desktop PC, a Netbook (for my daughter), an HP laptop, and a Gateway convertible tablet, and an iPhone, the iPad hands down crushes all of the mobile devices.
