Calc and Stat for dental school

Okay, so math is not one of my strengths. There are several DS's that require calc/stat or at least recommend them.

I know if I take it, it will probably lower my gpa bc math is a weakness of mine.

How heavily is math incorporated in the review/application process for schools that recommend them?
For schools that require it, very important. But schools that recommend? or don't recommend?

I don't plan on taking it, but do plan on taking more upper lvl science classes.

If admissions puts your application side by side with another applicant and you are both tied, they might pick someone that took the recommended classes.
