Okay, so previously I had posted on here with my schools cGPA and sGPA. I have worked as a CNA every summer for three years and I am a college athlete. I also have various volunteer hours and am in a few honors societies. There is also a steady upward trend in my grades with last years GPA being at a 3.8 with many challenging courses (genetics, organic chemistry, etc.).
With this sudden eradication of the grade replacement policy by AACOMAS, my cGPA drops down to a 3.24 and my sGPA is a 3.19 (I had gotten a D in physics and retook for an A). This grade can be explained by some family issues, but that still doesn't take it off of my GPA or make up for it. NOW what do I do? Should I even bother applying this round? Assuming I have a very average MCAT score.

Based off of some calculations, If I do really well in the Fall semester I can bring my cGPA/sGPA up to a 3.34. Should I wait to submit my application then? I know it'd be a little late in the game, but I don't know what else to do.

Also, should I do an SMP?

Are you set to graduate in spring 2018? If so, I would at least wait until next cycle, and see where your GPA's are at then. If you can get close to the 3.4 mark, and you score 505 ish, you'll be good to go for many D.O. schools.

You're doing just fine. You do not need an SMP. Ace your courses from here on out and I think you'll be in a good spot. Being a college athlete is difficult and a plus for your application. Try to get an MCAT 505+ and take time off/defer a year if you need to make that happen. You won't be doing yourself any favors if you rush that and score below 500.

Your GPA is a little low, but not awful. Take the MCAT and see what you get. If you get a higher than average score then you should consider applying, but if not then you should wait until next cycle to boost your GPA. Also, research all the schools to see which ones would even consider you based on a lower GPA.
