So I'm a Cali resident, but went to the midwest for undergrad (good school). My stats are average, but ECs good (did a year of service work last year in DC and am now working in a hospital in South America)... money is a big issue (undergrad loans, volunteer work and latin american income dont make for the big bucks) and have no interest in applying to 30 schools, many of which i would not be happy going to anyway. im looking for some advice on which out of state schools to apply to in addition to the cali schools (also is there any point in applying to a stanford or ucsf if i dont have excellent stats?? i know its all a crap shoot but i dont want to throw away money either). I am also looking more for urban settings as opposed to schools in the middle of nowhere, with not much outside activities (im not naive enough to think that i will have tons of free time, but i also find it necessary to go party when need be or have other stuff to do outside of studying)... also does anyone have thoughts, experience with MD/MPH programs?? any advice would be appreciated as i might be moving to another south american country for a month of two in april to do some service work (im random i know) and want to get my **** figured out before then.
