california programs

Hi,
Does anyone know if any of the academic california programs are known to take their prelims into the categorical program? is it common or should I look into another state?

Why are you considering a prelim spot (and not a categorical one) this early in the application process? IMG?

UC San Diego has offered categorical positions to prelims in the past.
