how hard is it get gensurg in california? I don't care if it's academic community.. although probably prefer community. Thanks for your help.

Mainly due to location, CA has some of the most competetive Gsurg programs to get into, although there are some that are not as competetive.

As far as the competetive ones go: UCSF, UCLA, Stanford, and UCSD are considered very competetive for academic programs. Huntington Memorial Hospital and the Santa Barbara Cottage Program are also extremely competetive as far as community programs go. I think one of these two community programs only takes 1 categorical resident per year, but you may want to check on that.

Others that are not considered as competetive as the ones above (but still hard to get into for the mere fact that they are in CA) include:

UC-Davis
UCSF-Fresno
UC-Irvine
San Joaquin General Hospital
Kern Medical Center (Bakersfield)
