i'll be very blunt and open about my stats and I ask for your sincere guidance.

PCAT Jan 07

Verbal Ability 90
Biology 95
Reading Comprehension 76
Quantitative Ability 82
Chemistry 86
Composite 91

Overal GPA 3.39
Science GPA 2.7

Pharm Tech Experience-- 1 year
B.A. Economics (Graduating this May 07)

I applied to 6 schools for the September 07 class but I applied very late and the chances are not looking good. I'm now thinking about admission into the september 08 class. What do u guys suggest I do and where do I apply? I need schools that will overlook my weak science gpa and focus more on my decent overal gpa and strong PCAT score. Thanx in advance!!

I assume most people will suggest taking more science classes to boost that GPA. That and increase your experiences.

You'll be hard pressed to find a school that will overlook 2.7, maybe a 2.8 (only because I know a few schools have 2.8 mins), but even then you're under the minimum for a lot of pre-preq GPA requirements. I suppose if the grades that brought your science GPA down weren't prereqs, you might get away with it, but it'd take an awful lot of explaining I'd think.

Good job on the PCAT. You have a year to bring up your science GPA if you don't get in this year. Whatever class you bombed the first time around, retake those first. Then if you have time, retake the ones you made a C in. Some schools will look at your highest grade in a class and not your average for that class. Texas Tech comes to mind.

Apply as soon as possible too, your chances will be better. Good Luck!!!

If i'm graduating in a month how can I bring the science GPA up?

You can either take or maybe retake some science classes at a JC. Another thing you can consider is take some more rigorous upper division sciences courses at your current university through its open university program. I, myself is currently taking some sciences classes at a local JC because my science GPA is only 2.94 and I have been put on hold for one school and have not heard from the other one I applied to. Good luck.

With your PCAT alone you will probably get an interview to most places. Just don't blow that and you should be fine. I've interviewed at two different schools with a 3.91 CC GPA, a 63 PCAT, two awesome letters of recommendation and some really good experience. Read the sig., I was accepted to one of them. You have to sell yourself. What can you bring to the table?

apply early...start ask your recommendation people again & tell them the situation...Finish your essay questions (short answer)? Refine your personal statement? Then get everything organized and put it somewhere safe. Be one of the lucky few to turn everything in the first two weeks of the filing period. Apply to schools that require PCAT if you think your GPA is low.

This is why I wanna know which schools focus more heavily on PCAT. Schools that weight the PCAT strongly in the admissions equation. Anyone know of these schools or where to find a list?

I honestly don't think anyone other than the admissions committee at any particular school of pharmacy can give you the answer you're looking for. I would apply in state, and maybe give a couple of schools a call and just talk to them and explain your situation. You will have a degree, a VERY competitive PCAT, and hopefully some good recommendations. With this on the table I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. I just got accepted to South with a 3.12 Overall GPA, 2.81 Science GPA, 3.45 Math GPA, and a 63 PCAT. Just keep trying. You'll get in with your stats. Good luck!
