I'm starting my orthodontic residency this month and was looking into buying an SLR camera with macro lens and a ring flash. Do any of you have opinions or suggestions regarding what camera/system you prefer. I've been looking at Canon XSi/X1i and also the 50D. Both cost are quite the investment and I was wondering what camera works best for you?

Thank you in advance for your time!

if you're taking just the standard ortho records, an SLR is hardly necessary. Lester Dine (or was it Photomed) were selling their point-and-shoot cameras like hot cakes at AAO this year (even though they do sell DSLR packages as well).

You may want to check this old thread from orthotown.com. I believe you have to register in order to view the thread.

I currently use a $200 point and shoot camera (Sony DSC-t7). It's simple and compact (I carry it w/ me when I travel from one office to another)....very little training is required. Any member of my staff can use it to take ortho record.
