Hey,

I'm wondering which laptop students here usually use for schools.can any one please suggest me a good laptop for school(NYU).

1.I know DELL, HP, COMPAQ & SONY are good. I dont know how to decide on those.
2.I also want to know about the screen size. should we take 14/15 inch screen or 17 inch, as we do most of the reading on it.
3.what are the additional features i need to consider?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before. Please let me know which one you find good.

DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT!THE SCHOOL IS GOING TO SEND U THE SPECIFICATIONS VIA REGULAR MAIL!BUT FYI, IT HAS TO BE A DELL/IBM WITH 1.4 GIGS HARD DRIVE,512 MB RAM,DVD-CD-RW COMBO!I FORGOT THE RESOLUTION AND THE ACTUAL SCREEN SIZE..AS I DONT HAVE THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS HANDY!HOPE IT HELPS...!MOREOVER...U NEED TO HAVE A PDA TOO!THE SPECIFICATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED TOO!

I bought a new laptop, few days back.

I want to add few things here for the SDN's who are thinking to buy a laptop in future

1) Better to have bluetooth in your laptop, as now evrything [ like cameras, cell phones and headphones] are wireless.

2] When you configure you computer better to buy----wireless network card a/g. As there are 3 types of wireless routers[ services ] . A,B, and G are the 3 types of wireless services. So if you buy a laptop which has wireless network card a/g, it will catch all the 3 wireless services.

3] Its better to buy dual processor, which are latest now. the reason for that if you have mulyiple windows open on your dual processor laptop, the processing speed will be fast.

4] Hard drive is good if you increase upto 100 GB. Even 60-80 GB is fine.

5] Make sure your memory should be at least of 1 GB.


the processor speed should be at least 1.66 GHZ. Now these days you can find this speed upto 2 GHZ. this is the speed at which your laptop will work. Higher the spped , faster will be your processing of data.


please , correct me. I know I am not a hardware specialist, but I learned all this when I bought my Laptop.

I bought Dell Brand, Inspiron E 1505.

I want to add some more information here.

So when you buy the dell Laptop , enter that coupon in the mention box and you will get instant discount. Like my Laptop's actual price is 2089$ and after discount of 750$, I had to pay 1342.
