I'm currently a senior in high school and exploring the possibility of a healthcare related career. I am taking a health occupations class this year, which includes extended job shadows with different health related jobs. Anyway, I just found out that as high school students we are not allowed to witness and surgery or procedures. Is there some other way I could get to witness what surgery is like. I don't consider myself squeamish but I haven't really been exposed to blood and guts before and I want to see how I can handle it. I do dislike seeing people in extreme pain however. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

are any of your friends' parents doctors? assuming they know that you're a thoughtful, mature person, they're often willing to let people observe w/ them or, barring that, make a few calls on your behalf. that's how i got my preliminary exposure to the OR.
