Hey,

I am a senior this year, not applying till this spring. I'm waiting on my August mcat scores, which won't be out for another month or so. I'm a Spanish major and could be a Bio major if I take two rough classes this semester. My question is this: Is it practical to just be a Spanish major ?

I realize for med schools it wont matter much. But I'm worried that if for some reason my MCAT score's not high enough, that it would be better to graduate w/ a degree in spanish and bio to have more options. Can any one help with this at all??

Being a senior is great, but all this worrying about my future SUCKS--

thanks

If you did have to go to a fallback plan, would working in the Bio industry appeal to you? It's definitely more practical to graduate with both a Spanish and a Bio major, since you give yourself more options, but only go for it if you can see yourself being happy in a Biology-related job.

i don't see why it would be bad to have a double major. i guess if you feel you can handle it, and you want to do it, then go for it.

First of all good luck on your MCAT. In your post you seemed to be a bit concerned about those two bio courses. I would find out who the prof's are for them and meet them. Ask what is expected in their class and how you can best succeed in it. This will give you an idea of the workload and allows the prof to get to know you.
As for careers with both Bio and Spanish I suggest meeting with a career counselor at your school. Ask about internships that you may be able to do this year to get your foot in the door.
But, even if your MCAT score isn't good you should not give up! If you can, take postbac classes then retake the MCAT the following year. This will leave you more prepared.

thanks!

I've decided to do the bio major 🙂
