I know they only require a bachelor degree to become a dentist in China and a master degree in Hong Kong. It's kind of funny how people have to work their butts off to get into colleges in China but a bachelor degree is really not that hard to get in the United States. Anyways, it's very easy to be a dental assistant if that's all you want to do at this time. (maybe you are considering dental school later) If I am correct, you have to be certified in order to be a dental assistant in New York. Please visit this link http://www.op.nysed.gov/dentcdalic.htm to get more information and application. I would say do some research on the internet and get familiar with how dental procedures here are different from China then go get certified. I am sure that it won't be a problem for you base on your background. I have taken the test (not in NY) and it was fairly easy. No big deal. Good luck. Let me know if you need anything else.

I am not sure about the laws in NY but here in Florida you would be able to get an excellent job as an assistant being a foreign trained dentist. In fact, the other assistant I work with is a dentist from Columbia. The only problem is, you will be paid considerably less in FL than in NY so it might be worth your while to get certified as the previous poster said and stay in NY. But FL could be an option for you if you don't want to go through all the trouble...
