Can I attend Ross or SGU but also re-apply in USA?

I would like to first thank everyone in advance. This is my first post but I’ve been looking at this website for a while and definitely appreciate the wealth of advice/information.

Unfortunately, I too did not get into Medical School this year. Therefore my dad feels it is best that I attend either Ross University or St. George's University but also re-apply to Texas Medical Dental School Application Service. My question, therefore, is whether any of you have gone through this path before or have seen a student go through this path before and whether or not you or they were successful? When re-applying to TMDSAS I will make sure to indicate to schools that I am not applying as a transfer student but instead will repeat my 1st year again. Do you think Texas Medical Schools will accept students who do this? Do you by chance know what percentage of students who do this get in? I guess the reason I would waist the year would be that it would give me a head start into the Medical curriculum and make my first year in a Texas Medical School easier. I know the TMDSAS asks whether I have attended Medical School or have been accepted to Medical School, so would it be better to lie and not indicate that I'm currently studying in the Carribeans? Although unethical, my heart has always been steadfast on becoming a doctor so that I can use medicine to help people.

Thanks in advance guys. It’s great seeing peers work together to help accomplish their dreams.

Unfortunately, I can't directly answer your question as far as going to a Carib. school and then reapplying to a U.S. school. But I was basically in your shoes this time last year. I'm from Georgia and I didn't get into any U.S. schools. I did, however, get into Ross and SGU. I carefully considered attending. The only reason I'm not there now is my wife couldn't get a job.

Let me assure you though that both SGU and Ross are legitimate and boast excellent match rates into good residencies. You should not go with the intent of repeating the first year in a U.S. school. There are plenty of post-bacc. programs in the US that would do more to prove you are "worthy" of US med school. These programs do not cost as much and would not require you to lie about having been in medical school previously.

If you are just dying to get started in medical school and can't wait then go to Ross or SGU with the intent on finishing there. I remember thinking waiting a year would kill me. It hasn't. In fact its been wonderful. I've worked and set aside some money. I've worked on my marriage, and I worked on my medical school application. Just by spending a year to study for the MCAT I increased my score. Now I've been accepted to a DO school, have been wait listed at two US allopathic schools, and am waiting to hear from two other allopathic schools.

I'm not trying to discourage you. But you have to decide what you want. If you absolutely can not wait to get started becoming a doctor go to Ross or SGU...but FINISH! Retaking the first year, you will be no better off than if you had stayed in the states working or doing a post-bacc. program. Good luck to you.

I really appreciate the advice. If anyone else has had any experience with my dilema, please let me know. If you have any personal questions, please feel free to private message me.

NO don't lie. I got kicked out of med school. You can get back in. Just be honest and show why it won't happen again.
