I know people who have done internal medicine and general surgery before going in to radiology straight away.

Can you do this with family medicine?

Yes, but it's not easy to get into a program unless it's really desperate, as they'll only get 50-75% of the money from Medicare for your training as they would have gotten for someone who either matched straight from med school or dropped out of Surgery after one year.

I think you can do an intern year in any general specialty. Mine was a TY, but technically it was family medicine.
