Just wondering if anyone else out there has thought or tried this... I'm really curious to read my LOR's now that there's nothing else I can do about ranking since the list's are submitted. I wonder if my student affairs person will let me read them...I signed the whole confidentiality thing. Just curious?

completely dependent on your student affairs office, but in reality, probably not.

that being said, i've heard of some instances while reading thru the forums of people being allowed to see their letters despite the confidentiality thing... so your mileage may vary.

I'm really curious to see what mine say! oh well... 😛

No, they will not (should not) let you read them unless you get permission from the letter writer. In practice though they may, I was given copies of my LOR's in sealed envelopes to bring on interviews. I still have them and could easily read them. I don't think I want to though.

I heard througt the grape vine last year during interview season that a few applicants were given their letters at an interview to read so that they could explain a comment made in the letter(s). This did not happen to me, so either my letters were total awesome... or totally sucked and there was just too much to explain.

Yeah- I acutally had this happen to me- at one of my final interviews (with the PD, no less), the guy passes me my dean's letter and showed me were there was a little discrepency in the whole MSPE thing. Basically, in the last summary paragraph, I was called "excellent", and then in the next sentance read "I give him my highest recommendation". Hmmm.... mebbe this explains a couple of my rejections? The PD spent the next couple of minutes criticizing my dean for not being able to write an accurate dean's letter!

I havn't applied to residencies yet, but I have a few LOR. When I asked for em, I had the attending send a copy of it to my house as well. I think its a easy way for me to see what they write before I submit. Im sure Im not the only person who has done that
