Can pre-med advisors inquire about your waitlist position?

Anyone know if schools that don't reveal to applicants what their rank is on the waitlist would reveal that info to their advisors? I'm guessing no, but I've heard gower talking about advisors calling up schools to get a feel for an applicant's chances at a particular school. Anyone know what the deal is for sure on this matter?

I am a regular follower of Gower and I agree with you that he implies (fairly strongly at times) that a premed advisor is going to get a much better sense of the wait list situation than will the applicant calling for him/herself. If you have an advisor, why not give it a try.
