Can subspecialists still do general OB/GYN tasks if they want?

Forgive my ignorance because I'm just an undergrad pre-med, but I am very interested in OBGYN. REI and MFM seem very intriguing, but I was just wondering if once you subspecialize you only see patients exclusively relating to that subspecialty. For example, can an REI doctor volunteer at a clinic and do general gynocology in his/her spare time or during retirement? (I'm asking because I volunteer at a clinic for uninsured patients and I've seen firsthand how difficult it is to get patients in to see specialists. I love the aspect of giving primary care to people in great need, but I also think the research and procedurals of OBGYN subspecialties are fascinating.)

As another question, can a general OBGYN assist MFM or gyn onc doctors? Or do they hand off their patients to specialists once they realize "oh this is a high risk case," for example?

Thank you for responses! Again, I'm just a premed but I want to get a better idea of how specialization works :) And I hope I am correct to post in this thread vs the pre-med thread.
