His posts are completely worthless, and all he does is annoy people. For those that don't follow SDN regularly - he could really give them horrible advice and they wouldn't know that he is just messing with them. He should go. All in favor?

If he gets banned, he'll only come back as a different name... and that could be worse, because we might not be able to tell who he is right away.

if we banned everyone on here that gave awful advice....well, I guess we wouldn't have to keep upgrading the server

RP - it's not possible
All his IP Addresses have been logged, so Phar would be prevented from logging in under any username, including creating new ones.

I don't agree with banning though, per se. Maybe just block him from Pre-allo to start with.

Ok, that's interesting (I guess SDN really means business when they bad someone!)... but he could just go to his university or med school computer lab, right?... and use a computer he's never used before.

I guess so. Also, if someone else in his university tried to use Phar's lab computer for SDN (albeit unlikely - they would also have to decontaminate the keyboard with fungicide) they might not be able to access sdn either.

Wow. yeah, I didnt know that either.

Anyway, I agree banning is a slippery slope...
Yes, his posts seem to generally incite small riots here and there on the board. But from what I've read they aren't disgusting like the people who advertise for their porn sites!
I dont know how you go about blocking him from pre-allo, but I think if we just ignore him,he'll have no ammo. he can post his opinions all he wants; just dont reply to his posts cause 9 times out of 10 it probably isnt worth your time!!

Cheers!!
Spin:D :D

Could someone delete this thread?

I really don't think this is helping anyone.

You know wat....my geeky SDNers......Firstly, moderators can't ban me because i am one of the best on SDN(you have to read all my posts to understand)....................

Needless to say, Can we get all geeks on SDN banned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Common bring them on..................just like the thread 'Phar quits SDN'.

By the way, most of the SDN geeks who hate me are MD rejects............................

However, threads like this can easily go over the line.

So, dr Mom.........are you saying i am annoying or gave bad advice???

You can always use the ignore function. Pull up the user profile & click on "add xxxxxxxxx to your ignore list."

wow! I didn't know that either!! Thanks. SDN is full of surprises!

neither. She's saying the TOS ban singling out members. It is the OP not you that is at risk of TOS violation...(in this case! ;) )

Philosophical question... if everyone adds him to their ignore list... wouldn't he be effectively banned?

I also highly suggest that you guys do ignore me because it will definitely do me good as i won't have to deal with your geeky mouth.

What is a TOS violation or ban?

TOS - terms of service - the terms you agreed to on signing up. If you break them it is a TOS violation

ban - your username is deleted and you are no longer able to log in and post

Here are some pertinent parts of the TOS:

Topics of Discussion

While these discussion forums encourage a wide range of opinions, please keep your posts focused on the topic of the forum in which you are submitting your message. Each forum has a different topic, so what is appropriate in one forum or thread may not be appropriate in another. Generally speaking, however, profanity, vulgar language, and personal attacks are not acceptable in any forum.

Inappropriate Language

The use of inappropriate or offensive language is not permitted in these forums. Inappropriate or offensive language includes, but is not limited to, any language or content that is sexually oriented, sexually suggestive or abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, or that contains racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind. We ask that you please be considerate to other members in the forums when posting your messages.

Harassment and Flaming

The Student Doctor Network members are not permitted to harass or "flame" other members. Please do not post or transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law. Please note that this also includes the posting of taunts on a forum solely for the purpose of deriding that forum's topic and/or members.

Other General Rules of Conduct

You shall not post on these forums any Content which (a) is libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, abusive, harassing or threatening, (b) contains viruses or other contaminating or destructive features, (c) violates the rights of others, such as Content which infringes any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or violates any right of privacy or publicity, or (d) otherwise violates any applicable law. You may not post on these forums any links to any external Internet sites that are obscene or pornographic. You shall not use the main forums for any commercial purpose, to distribute any advertising or solicitation of funds or goods and services or to solicit users to join competitive online services.

Banning

The Student Doctor Network reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to any part of these forums. If you violate any of the rules stated in this document or any other service terms documents, a moderator will remove the offending message and send you a note letting you know why the message was removed and requesting that you adhere to the forum policies. It is your responsibility to maintain a current, valid email address in your registration information so that our moderators can contact you in the event of a policy violation. Any member who violates our policies three times will be denied access to these forums for a period of 30 days, whether or not they were able to receive a message from a moderator stating the nature of the violation. Any member who refuses to comply with the policies of these forums will be banned permanently.

You can see why this thread is a problem.

sure, ask me a question and then delete your post. ;)

Okay, the question was good so I'll repeat it. I was asked about SDNers having the right to request the banning of members who violate the TOS. Here's my answer:

you do have the right to do so, but it should be done directly with the moderators via PMs or emails and should contain specific examples of how the user violates the TOS (preferably links to the posts in question). this is not the way to go about it.

Dr.Mom... while I see how this thread borders on the limits of the rules... it seems obvious to me that phar consistantly and blatantly breaks the rules. If the purpose of banning is to protect users from abusive and offensive posts... then don't the users have some right to speak up when another user is consistently offensive and abusive?

in which case you have the right to hit the 'notify a moderator' button anytime you see such a post. what you don't have the right to do is spontaneously start threads of your own about someone...that is a TOS violation itself....

So, lets the power and the truth about DRMom

Aren't you supposed to ban Texasguy41(the creator of this thread)???????

Isn't that name calling?

However, I highly think that you won't ban him.

Yeah... I realized that... which is why I deleted this post. But you were too quick for me. :(

Dr.Mom... I deleted it because I thought it was better left for a PM... but you guys are too quick!!

so maybe we should let phar be a moderator ;)

I don't think there is any 'supposed to' about it - other than moderators are supposed to use good judgement and to at least warn people. thats what seems to be happening....

sorry ;)

In fact, i am one of the best SDNers(i stated this before).......I ONLY fire back when somebody starts........ that is not violation but rather defensive.............. And, if the moderators were to ban me., so many other SDN members would HAVE to be banned too as they started the "name-calling"

For example, me and texasguy41 go back a long way.

You people have way too much spare time. Go do something constructive.

If I were trying to be constructive with my time, would I *be* on SDN right now? ;)

Self defense does not protect you. The instigator's actions would be examined, of course.

Oh really........ How come you have not responded to the question i asked you about banning texasguy41?

That is why.....self defense is an Instinct response.

PROOF ME WRONG by banning him....and i will never fireback to people who start it.

I am sure texasguy41 has violated the TOS by creating this thread.

Again, proof me wrong

DrMom already pointed out that under TOS he gets 3 warnings...

I specifically did respond by reminding you that per the TOS he gets 3 warnings. Please take a few seconds to read my previous posts before you make your accusations.

FYI....since i joined SDN......i know of two SDN members who were banned without any freaky warning. It was an instant banning decision.

hmm, well, sorry your other screennames got banned without warning ;) ....

but I guess it's a matter of discretion based on the degree or intent of the infraction.

Wow,

I had no idea what TOS was until I read this thread. I didn't realize I couldn't request the banning of Phar. My bad. I certainly don't think I was personally attacking him.

Well, you never clearly stated. I know you laid out the TOS rules and then one of your posts read, "Notice that you get 3 warnings per the TOS". I thought "you" was refering to any SDNer.

Yes, and TexasGuy is an SDNer.
