I really want to get into this one medical school but they haven't given me an interview yet (but the application is supposedly still pending). If I beg them to let me in, will they yield?

I'll probably get the reaction below:

i see you haven't posted here much, so you should know that these threads have been done a lot. the consensus is that begging only helps if you do it by phone to the dean, use speakerphone, film the conversation, post it on youtube, and then put a link to the video in this thread. sorry, but that's really your only shot.

And don't forget the cash donation that will fund their new cancer research center.

Yes, but you would have to do it in person and be on your knees with your hands in the prayer position. If they still say no, begin to sob uncontrollably while groveling at the dean's feet. If the dean has no soul and still says no, you could always use reverse psychology by sreaming "fine, I didn't want to go to your stupid school anyways!" and storm out of his office, slamming the door on the way out. Oh and be sure to wait outside of his office for him to come running after you. GL

There was this school I really really wanted to go to and they rejected me pre-interview, I can't remember the last time I cried that intensively. Yet I never picked up the phone or showed up at the school to get answers as to why, what I had left at that point was my sense of dignity; after the crying marathon I thought "if they don't want me, someone else will, they are missing out on a student that would've been proud to be there", and moved on. Do the same, things will even out.

I always thought the whole application process was begging. Anymore would be a little redundant at this point.

JonnyG, I'd have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I think there is only a very small percentage of us that is above groveling. :)

I mean...if there are that many of us who would eat a poop hot dog, surely a little begging is not above us. ;)

Yeah, you CAN beg. Didn't everyone learn that you can do anything if you put your mind to it?

    But it won't work...

Begging? Is this what it has come to? Sure, why not?

This strikes me as just plain pathetic...

Get up off your a$$ and go pick up an app from McDonalds. You might be able to beg them for a position...

As much sh*** as everyone is giving you, it might be useful to be extremely persistent, depending on the school. I know someone who got into UC Irvine by being very, very persistent in letting them know how much he wanted to go to their school after he interviewed there (NOT by begging). If you decide to go for it do so very respectfully and don't sound desperate. Good luck.

Yeah, but if you don't even rate for an interview, and it's mid-March... but whatever. Hope springs eternal right? At least here in SDN neverneverland.

Who cares about pride when all you want is an acceptance?

If I was still without an acceptance, I'll trade "my pride" for an acceptance anyday.

Is begging the same thing as writing a letter of intent after they waitlist you?

I would go about getting in the good ol' American way. Threaten a lawsuit. Accuse the school of discrimination (everyone has some characteristic that can be discriminated against-short, tall, fat, skinny, your religion, your childhood, pick anything) then wait for the offers to roll in.

Have a friend video tape you walking on your knees for the entire path from your home to the med school, and send the video to admissions. You can even repeat "I love med school x so much. Please interview me, pretty, pretty, pretty please." over and over again during the trip. They'll interview you.

Nah, if even one person gets in that way, thanks to SDN, schools would have hundreds of people doing this the next cycle. Thus schools have no choice but to vigorously defend and countersue. You probably would end up owing your rejectors millions. That's the real american way -- there is no hole you find yourself in that you cannot make deeper.

If you beg them, your application will no longer be "pending"....
