can you specialize in delivering babies

as a PA can you specialize in delivering babies or you must be a MD/DO to do that, if so that def. would be the greatest job in the world. lol
 
There are many PA's in obstetrics/gynecology. It's one of the basic rotations all PA program I've seen require.
 
Yes, PA's can definitely deliver. Only four states place any restrictions on Pa's ability to deliver. Often, however, hospitals place restrictions on PA's and NP's delivering babies due to malpractice concerns. In seven specific states that I know of, however, there are hospitals that have PA's that are delivering babies on a regular basis. PA's cannot perform a Cesarean delivery, but neither can a CNM or NP. PA's can first-assist for Cesarean deliveries. I do not know if NP's and CNM's can first assist for a C-section.
 
That said, it is a tiny percentage of PAs who deliver babies due to scope of practice limitations and hospital credentialing etc. As for being the best job, YUCK, you can have it, lol.
