Canada student wanting USA opportunities

I am currently a Canadian citizen and student but there are just so much opportunities offered at USA schools in terms of research programs and such that it saddens me to see "for USA citizens only". How does it work for me to come to USA for these programs since I've never lived in USA? Hope someone has a clue as to if I can apply for a program and just use passport or something... And also for people applying to USA medical schools from Canada how does that work? Thank you in advance for reading and perhaps helping me out!

I agree, Canadians get screwed over on this and we're practically the same country. I guess US med schools see that adding Canada to the applicant pool is like adding another California (although, Cali is a bit bigger).

Maybe it all goes back to the War of 1812; us USAers are still bitter about losing what we started.

Some research funding is limited to US citizens so you could be seeing that restriction on who can be enrolled in some research training programs.
