With the upcoming Canadian federal election, NDP leader Jack Layton announced his stance to "hire 1,200 doctors and "thousands" of nurses over the next 10 years." He also vowed to "repatriate 300 Canadian doctors currently practising abroad and "streamline" the credential recognition process to get hundreds of foreign-trained doctors accredited in Canada more quickly."

Sounds like a good policy to me, especially after reading this =)

Doesn't matter if it is a good idea. Layton will become PM when pigs fly!

concur... it'd be nice though if other parties also adopted this platform...

hell, it'd be nice if Canada wasn't so damn strict

its the royal college and not the government that is the major barrier to hiring IMGs. The government pretty much requires you to write some tests and thats it, but the royal college requires strict canadain experience and this is the hang up for most IMGs

There is a difference between "foreign doctors" and IMG's (many of whom are Canadians). You might want your poll to make this distinction because it isn't the same thing.

my bad, i meant foreign-trained, as described in the article
