Hi all,
Anybody, done any research about canadian dental schools? What is the scope over there for International dental students? Is there schools which has IDP programs? If so how many years and what about the fee structure?...Can we practise in US after getting the DDS from there (canada)? ...pls help..any sort of links regarding this are highly appreciated:clap:
Thank u

As far as I know there are only few accredeted dental schools in Canada from which if you graduate you can practice in the US..
You can do a search on ada.org to find out more..
take care

A degree from an IDP in Canada will not allow you to practice in the US.

Now a DDS degree from a regular 4 year dental program in Canada, will do it.

I read this fact on the ADA booklet "Dentistiry in the US....".

One thing I know for sure is that Canadian IDP are not recognized in USA .you could find this info on ADA.org .I just do not know where exactly ,but am positive .I read it on ADA somewhere long time ago .

And it is true that you MUST be perminant resident to get in these IDP in CANADA.

Thanks everybody for the Instant replies...Thanks sam that was very informative.....👍

Is an IDP from US recognized in Canada !!

OK buddies am back as I promissed you . I inserted some links befor I write about this subject so you can all read and search about it .Befor I write I would like you all to know that am only gonna talk about my own personal experience in Canada , and I would like you NOT TO TAKE MY WORDS FOR A 100% GURENTEE .you can always do your own search and judgements .

I have been following the Canadian dental system since 1996 .

Till the year 2000 or 2001 the old Canadian board used to be different than after the year 2000 . The old canadian board was JUST KIND OF A BOARD EXAM It consisted of tow parts ( Theory + clinical),it was somthing similar to California Bench. They tell you about a whole bunch of books & refrences in order to prepare for it ,and you take the Board exam ..............if you passed you can practice .This stopped after 2000/2001 .

These days there are 3 ways to get licenced :

1)- Redo the whole 4 year D.D.S program ,and MOST Canadian dental schools ask for these prerequisits :

- Bachelor degree ( 3 or 4 years in any undergraduate study ) ,you need a high GPA above 3 or 3.5 .
-DAT with competitive scores .
- maybe there are others that I do not remember you can check them at each school website .

I tried this rout .I took the DAT and got competitive scores in ALL DAT sections except the reading comprehention section .I applied to 6 six Canadian dental schools .I was NOT invited even for one single poor interview & and I was rejected by ALL of them .

The Ironic thing is that in some of the rejection letters I got I had these comments :

- One schoole told me that they only gave me 6 % ( SIX OUT OF ONE HUNDRED) on my application .
- Guess what...the fynny thing is that 2 of those universities boosted my spirit and encoraged me to apply to any undergraduate program to obtain any bachelor degree and told me KINDLY (thanks GOD)that I would be welcomed to reapply after that.WAO ..............I am 30 years now +3 or 4 years for this under graduate thing +1 year for the process of applying+4 years for their DDS program[this is IF....IF..... they accepted me] so the total result = I will graduate when I am 39.After I finish this DDS I need at least let us say 5 more years to repay my loans and stand up on my feet the total will be 44yers old.

supposing that after that I will marry the first lady I am gonna meet in the street, and she will become pregnant from our first night together.....(this is if we assume that by that AGE I am still functioning and my battery is still working)+ + 2 more years till this chiled pronounces his first word..by that time I will be 47years old......

Guess what guys.............what do you think my baby's first word will be.............??????????????? GRANDPA???
Attention please.........: I tried to squeez my calculations to the maximum

2)- The second way is to take the Canadian Board and try to get in to AS program ,and ill tell you guys some hints about this lovely option :

-YOU MUST be a perminant residant of Canada . ( I am a Canadian citizen )
- you need at least 82 % in your board which is not that easy to get .
- Spots for the AS program are very limited ,about 50 to 60 spotes in about 3 to 5 schools in ALL arround Canada .
- it is very rare to get old papers ,coz they do not release them .
- The board consists of tow parts like (NDB-1 + NDB -2 ) done simultaniously .
-

I personally did not try this option and did not try to do so,coz I have several friends (about 5 or 6 ) who tried it and could not make it to any AS program here .One of them got 80 % and after he gave up he took NDBE-1 and went to AS in USA . I did the same ,coz I found this route is like a loosing gambiling for me,or like entering a dark tunnel that has no clear end . I prefared to take my risck with NDB-1 ,and thanks GOD that I took the right move . Some times I feel that it was my destiny to be rejected by those six schools in order to be rewarded with UPENN .

3-) the third choice is some space availability( 2 or 3 spots) ,unfortunatly :

- it is offered ONLY in University of Montreal .
- Only in French .
- You need to take a French language test ,somthing similar to TOEFL .
- the lucky one accepted will get in to 2ed year of a 5 year D.D.S program .

I repeat it guys ,may be there are many things that I do not know about the Canadian Dental system regarding foriegn dentists ,but I personally feel that we are NOT welcomed here .

Again.............. you can always do your own search , contact & decision ....................... I gave it up here ..👎

Your such a wonderful helpfull man... Thank you

I have heard about the Canadian system and how it is unfair to the professional people. But God smiled on you, after all what you have been through Sam..you deserve it.

....
(this is if we assume that by that AGE I am still functioning and my battery is still working)

May I recommend "Cialis" proven to last for more than 12 hours action better than Viagra or levitra 😛

   Am just talkink about battery loosing it's memory .

hey sam,

wow that must have been really something ........going thru all that process taking up DAT !! doing well there ..and not to be called for the interview ...

Its great that u survived all that and started a new journey in
US .... ..u really deserve upen for your perseverance

dear sam you are so funny! i almost fell frommy seat reading your post bec. you were hilarious!

i am currently a canadian resident. i am eligible to apply for citizenship in nov. this year. i took the Eligibilty Examination offered by the ACFD as a requirement prior to applying to a canadian dental school and got 75%. The mean was 61% It is very competitive. I applied only to the University of Toronto two years in a row and got rejected. They said my GPA was not enough and my ranking among the applicants GPA and EE score considered was 97 so bec. i can't change my GPA I can only rewrite the exam and hope for the best...

i took the NDBE 1 and 2 in the US and my average is 82% what are my chances of getting into a US school with this score and a low GPA? I don't want to rewrite the NDBE bec. I am waiting for a bench extension and I have no drive to study for the NDBE again. What do you think?

i gather you are single. i am 29 next month with a 3 year old daughter and would like another child but i am going to wait till i get recertified again which is scary bec. everything is so uncertain at this point...

***I really do not know what to tell you about this ????The least person I know who could make it to an AS program here got 82 in his Canadian Board(which I do know that is a hard score to get),and he got it in his second attempt.

It is NOT only your GPA that they will complaine about....even if you got 81,999999 in your Canadian Board .I promiss you that they will find you a NEW EXCUSE . As I wrote befor.Foreign doctors like us ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE .THEY JUST DO NOT TELL IT TO YOU STRAIGHT IN THE FACE .These are RED LINES THAT THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO CROSS IT .

Don't you listen to the news ???or read papers???? .Quebec is in short of 1500 phisicians and there are hundreds....may be thousands of foreign graduates here and still................they do not recognise them or give them a chance..............simply THEY DO NOT CARE.I guess they look at us as some kind of ALIENS frome another planet,or they think that we were not treating real human beings back home.May be they think we were treating cats or dolls over there.Am sorry to say these words ,but you can't immagine how unfaire the system here.Still I do understand compleatly and 100% that they want to protect their graduates .I gave it up here.

*** with 82 % you still have the chance to apply to some schools like NYU,UPENN,........and others I do not remeber them all.just check each school prerequesits .If you could make it to California Bench ,your chanch is still better than the Canadian Board I promiss you that ,but do not take my words 100% gurentee.it is your own decision !!! I really do not know what to tell you !!
