Hi all,

I will be applying to DO schools this year but was wondering if its worth applying given my low GPA.

Stats: 3.6 cGPA/sGPA and a 508 MCAT.

ECs: 200 ER volunteer hours, undergraduate research, internship at a nursing home, 200 hospice hours, two undergraduate awards, involvement with various college clubs/community organizations and one year experience as a clinical research assistant

Being a non-US citizen/PR, I understand that I am at a disadvantage for American schools. Will an MPH help improve my chances at DO schools by giving me a gpa boost (I can get it up to 3.7)?

I would appreciate any input regarding my chances.

3.6 is acceptable for most, if not all, DO schools --> as is a 508 MCAT score. Go for it.

What is the lowest GPA a Canadian can get into with?

Why do you think that this is a low GPA? It's ~ at the median for MD acceptees!!!!

You are 100% fine for any DO school that takes Canadians. Start list with MSUCOM and UNECOM.

Canadian medical schools are 4.0 or bust. Thus, anything else is considered low. I wish I was kidding.

Yea I think you need to do your research. I low GPA for DO schools would be like 3.3 and lower. An average MCAT is 500 that's why they call it the 50th percentile. 508 is more like 79th percentile so anywhere, but average. Your stats are going to be just fine for most MD schools so honestly quit complaining and get to applying. You'll be fine.

No, he's an Canadian students without a green card for US residency. Thus his stats are definitely not suitable with US MD school which accepts the international.
I'm not clear how DO school will treat international students, but I think it's right to be careful. Anyway, I would suggest OP just take the chance. It might be fine.

Your stats in themselves are great for DO schools and normally would give you some luck with MD schools. However, I honestly don't know how much being an international student affects your chances here. I'd say it's certainly worth a shot.

OP should focus on DO schools. With 1-3 low tier MD schools.

Why are canadian medical schools soooo competitive?

Lack of schools + Canada has one of the most educated populations in the world. Thus, more applicants per school.
Almost everyone has some sort of college or university education. It's cheap here to go, tuition is about 6-8K a year.
