(Posted in "What are my chances" forum but didn't get any responses. Probably the wrong forum?)

Currently 3rd year Canadian undergrad, thinking about applying to US next year for medical school (more options in case I don't have an offer from Canadian schools).

I have great stats (~3.95 cGPA, ~522 Mcat), but the issue is that I'm missing physics and OChem (also the Bio at my university had no lab component?) from the common prereqs that the AAMC seems to suggest. I have taken a few Biochem courses though.
(Canadian medical schools have far fewer prereqs so this isn't a problem here in Canada)

My question is, are there US schools where they don't strictly require the above prereqs? I'm hesistant to take both first year physics and second year Ochem in 4th year because it will reduce my chances at Canadian medical schools due to how GPA is calculated here. (It is an option for me to take ONE of the two though).

There are schools with few or no prereqs. You can find out which ones on MSAR. If you don't want to take them now you have summer or even during the year you're applying. I have one prerequisite left but am doing it right before matriculation. They only need to be done before matriculation, not before applying. Any future courses can be listed on your amcas app. MSAR would be the best place to find school & specific course reqs.

First of all, your MCAT and GPA are absolutely awesome!!!! Amazing job. If you don't mind me asking, did you follow any schedule or use any specific book set for MCAT studying???

second, I agree with going on MSAR. there is no doubt that you could be able to attend an awesome school here in the U.S.!!! Good luck and keep up the good work

Content used for studying: 2015 Kaplan set + TPR books for CARS and Psych. From that, I had 3 Kaplan FLs and 3 TPR FLs that I did. I also bought the Qpacks from AAMC and did them, plus obviously the OG questions and the official FL.

In terms of how I studied... I didn't really study that well. I had the whole 4 month summer, but mostly relaxed while doing slow content review once through for the first two months (with practice passsages for CARS weekly rather than actually reading the CARS book). Then in the month leading up to my exam, I did all the FLs I had (one every 3 days), plus all the Qpacks I had and reviewed the more challenging areas for me (mostly orgo+biochem).

Obviously you are fine to learn these subjects since you learned them for the MCAT. You're concerned about taking lower level courses in 4th year right? Does it cause a problem to take them in the summer? You also might be able to enrol in them for winter semester after submitting your Canadian applications so it's not on your application. (You might want to see if this will be a problem first though!)

IMO your chances in Canada are quite high assuming your ECs are good so you could always try applying across Canada for next year then taking the courses after you've technically graduated so they don't interfere with GPA calculations the same way. I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize your chances at Canadian schools for the US schools.

Yep, for some weighted GPA calculations, 3/5 of your courses have to be at the year/higher.

Do courses in the summer count for prerequisites? I know that they often aren't even counted for cGPA here in Canada. That might be an option though.

Yea they do, counted in your cgpa as well.
