I am a dual Canadian and EU citizen. Depending on the cut off date for residency requirements (whether you need to be studying/working for 3 years in the EU before applying or by program start date) I may be considered as an EU applicant.

I don't really have a credible shot at any Canadian med school as my GPA is quite low and I don't have the greatest extracurriculars, but I will have a master's degree. I also haven't done the MCAT yet. I am thinking of applying to Irish med schools, as they would base acceptances only on GAMSAT scores.

My main concern is coming back to Canada either to do residency or to work.

Is it easier to get a residency position in lets say pediatrics in Ontario or come back to Canada after doing your training in Ireland? Also, how many years after graduating med school in Ireland do you become a fully qualified paediatrician as you would after 4 years as a resident in Ontario?

Peds Pathway:
Internship (1 year)
BST (Senior House Officer) 2 years
Registrar Training at least 2 years
HST (Specialist Training) 4 years

The minimum amount of time to become a pediatrician in Ireland is 9 years. Spots are highly competitive and on boards.ie people were saying it can take 12 years to be a consultant.

Also, on the other thread I bumped, someone was saying that GP training is the only one that Canada sees as reciprocal. It's an old thread so something might have changed.

Have you considered you are not intellectually fit to practice medicine, let alone care for children.

You have a problem.

Speaking of intellectual fitness, the OP said nothing that shows they cannot hack it in medicine. They did not mention their GPA or share the entirety of their application with you. Your critical reasoning skills need some work.

hey puppylatte, I've seen this guy post about of other stuff. He's just a troll lol. I know it's hard but the only thing to do is just let him be : /
